23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards: Full Winner’s List

The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was filled with a night where actors celebrated actors!

The annual award show, held at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, featured a number of emotional speeches on current issues. It was Mahershala Ali, who gave a brutally honest and passionate speech when winning for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role, sharing insight of his character and hoping we can use that as an example by avoiding to persecute those who are different.

While there were many emotions dwelling from the political statements of the night, there was gratitude, celebrations, and laughs! From the intro monologue about being an actor to the mini 9 to 5 reunion between Dolly Parton and Lily TomlinParton awarded Lily Tomlin with the biggest honor of the night, the Life Time Achievement Award.

Tomlin graciously accepted the award by reminding us of the iconic figure she is, from not only as an extraordinary actress but as an advocate for equal rights, and much more.

Lastly, Emma Stone undeniably made us laugh by forgetting everything she ever wanted to say during her acceptance speech!

For television, actors and actresses took the stage to give their gratitude for their cast-mates, families, and more! But many weren’t afraid to get a little political and speak on the issues happening today, like Sarah Paulson who encouraged the audience and viewers to donate to the ACLU; while Julia Louis-Dreyfus talked about the beauty of immigration. Bryan Cranston celebrated his fifth well-deserved win, and spoke on the topic of the night, Donald Trump.

For movies, La La Land wins once again with Emma Stone taking home Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role. While Denzel Washington was blindsided with his win for the same category. The movies category was extremely unpredictable, with many believing  Moonlight would be taking home the win for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture – that was definitely not the case. Hidden Figures took home the biggest award of the night with Taraji P. Henson ending the night with an inspiring speech about unity.

The SAG Awards brought many firsts tonight. With Viola Davis winning for the first time in the Supporting Actress category, while Claire Foy gets her first win in the Female Actor Drama Series Category. Favorites Stranger Things were shocked when they won their first win for Outstanding Performance for Ensemble in a Drama Series – actor David Harbour gave a powerful speech on shining a  light on everything going on in the world today by fighting back. It lead the entire audience to their feet!
