American Idol: Top 8 Performance Night Recap – March 3, 2016

**SPOILER ALERT**

American Idol is getting close to crowning its last-ever idol! In last night’s episode (March 3), all eight contestants performed. However, only seven had a secure spot on the Top 8. The bottom three contestants would be able to sing one more time, leaving judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Keith Urban with an extremely tough decision to put only one performer through to the next round.

My favorite of the secured performances had to be Mackenzie Bourg’s unique version of Whitney Houston‘s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).” As always, he took a song and made it his own. JLo mentioned that often switch ups don’t work but the way he chose to do it worked. Harry Connick Jr.  did not have as many positive remarks about the performance he said, “There was a more inventive way of doing the arrangement.” Bourg was dedicating his performance to his grandma in the hospital. Can it get any sweeter than that? Watch his full performance below…

Following MacKenzie, pop icon Demi Lovato took the stage to perform her hit single “Confident” with the Top 10. After the awesome collab, Demi had all eyes on her when she belted it out to her ballad “Stone Cold,” sealing approval of her talent from the judges. Check out both performances below…

Following Harry Connick, Jr., the most dreadful part of the night had officially come — contestants Avalon Young, Olivia Rox, and Gianna Isabella were officially named the bottom three contestants of the evening.

Avalon covered “Earned It” by The Weeknd, Olivia covered “Trouble” by Pink, and Gianna covered “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr., and Keith Urban had a very tough decision to make, as each gave the contestants positive feedback.  Keith Urban commented on Olivia’s vocal range being “insane” and JLo told Avalon “there’s nobody like you.”

After an extremely tough decision, the judges decided to save Avalon, meaning Olivia Rox and Gianna Isabella‘s time on American Idol came to a close.

The Top 8 contestants are MacKenzie Bourg, Sonika Vaid, La’Porsha Renae, Trent Harmon, Lee Jean, Dalton Rapattoni, Tristan McIntosh, and Avalon Young. To vote for your favorite, visit http://www.americanidol.com/vote.
