BLOG: Celeb Secrets Visits Universal Studios Hollywood to Celebrate Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year, readers!

The “Year of the Rooster” is finally here and Universal Studios Hollywood is helping everyone in Southern California celebrate with holiday-themed attractions throughout the park.

Last week, the Celeb Secrets team had the opportunity to visit the park and check out all of the attractions for the Lunar New Year, and we’re dishing about our experience in this exclusive blog!

This year, the “Year of the Rooster” got a wake-up call from DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda stars, Po and Tigress, as they made their first appearance in the annual celebration. In addition, a special Mandarin-speaking MEGATRON character from the theme park’s thrill ride “Transformers:  The Ride-3D,” along with favorite Universal characters Curious George and Woody Woodpecker, who were dressed in traditional Chinese attire to meet guests and take memorable photos in front of a customary Chinese gong.

Although the weather remained chilly, it didn’t stop us from visiting the park to see all of the activities. One of our favorite sights was inside the heart of the theme park’s Universal Plaza — it was absolutely breathtaking as we witnessed a curtain of customary red Chinese lanterns and a stunning plum blossom arch.

With an array of decorations, it’s hard to chose what we loved the most, but the “wishing trees” were definitely a highlight. Guests are able to share on a bright red card their wishes for the New Year. You bet the Celeb Secrets Team put their wishes on the blossom trees circling around the Plaza.

While Curious George shared with us his wish for more bananas this year, Woody Woodpecker wanted to excitedly share with us the different festivities – but reassured us he was the main attraction of the celebration!

Don’t tell Woody Woodpecker, but the highlight of the time honored tradition marked its return with the ominous 12-foot-tall Mandarin-speaking MEGATRON, who will engage guests in conversation characteristic of his persona. We got to interact with MEGATRON one-on-one and pleaded for our life, luckily he let us down easy with a slight attack of fear.

We were also invited to toast the “Year of the Rooster” at Universal CityWalk‘s newest restaurant, Dongpo Kitchen, which serves upscale and modern Sichuan cuisine. The park also offers, huge chocolate covered fortune cookie, beautifully decorated doughnuts the size of our heads, and more.
