WHAT’S IT LIKE WORKING ON A VOICEOVER SERIES? DO YOU PREFER VOICEOVER OR LIVE ACTION?

Darcy Rose Byrnes: “I don’t think I could ever choose which I like more, voiceover or live action. Working on a voiceover show is a strange and wonderful experience. You work with so many people but you don’t always get to meet them in person. Having said that, the people you meet in the voiceover world are some of the most generous and kind people I have ever met and worked with. Every time there’s more than one of us in the booth together (which is most of the time on this show) it’s just a blast. There’s a little bit of freedom you get as an actor doing voiceover. You get to play characters you’d never be allowed to play in front of the camera. (Unless you wrote the character for yourself, and believe me I will be doing that too someday!) Voiceover has also given me the freedom to train as an actor outside of the country, something I never had the time to do before when I was doing mostly live action work. I am so grateful to be in the VO world.”

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU THINK GIRLS SHOULD TAKE AWAY WHEN THEY WATCH SPIRIT RIDING FREE?

Darcy Rose Byrnes: “There are so many things that I hope people take away from this show. But to speak to the young girls out there watching Spirit Riding Free, know this: Gender does not define us and it does not stop us. It is something to be proud of. I am powerful and I am a girl. I am powerful because I am a girl. The girls in Spirit let nothing stop them. Not danger, not stereotypes and not bullies. That inspires me. Maybe it’ll inspire you too. I hope it does.”

SINCE WE ARE CELEB SECRETS, WHAT’S A BTS SECRET FROM RECORDING THE SERIES THAT PEOPLE WOULD NOT SEE WHEN THEY WATCH IT?

Darcy Rose Byrnes: “Something that people might not know when watching the show is that we for the most part record together. Sydney (Park) and I bicker like our characters in between takes, Amber (Frank) teases me when my character is being mean, Bailey (Gambertoglio) always doodles on her script in highlighter, whenever Kari (Wahlgren) and Nolan (North) are in the booth together we all just mostly shut up and listen to the banter that goes back and forth in different voices and Aury (Wallington) is an animated character that was brought to life as a flesh and blood human. Above all, we all genuinely love each other.”
