DAY 3 — SEPTEMBER 25, 2016

As the sun set on the final day of the Life is Beautiful Music & Art Festival, the energy was contagious as positive vibes still lingered in the air long after the last set finished. What seemed like the most packed day, we were excited to see such amazing acts and explore the art one last time.

Some of my favorite art pieces were the huge letters in the entrance of the festival that read “Life Is Beautiful” (it lit up the street at night), the jungle gym photo piece in front of the ferris wheel, the giant bunnies called “intrude,” the giant letters that read “LOVE” in front of the Huntridge Stage, the old car filled with beautiful succulents inside that suggested to judge a book by its cover, and the motel sign in front of the Ambassador Stage that said a different phrase everyday.

Festival goers looking to refuel found a variety of culinary villages spread throughout the grid that were fully equipped with grassy areas, chill zones and shade. There was something for everyone, even us vegans, who go to join in on the fun with veggie dogs, snow cones, vegan donuts and even ice cream!

We had two interviews on the final day of Life is Beautiful. The first one was with an up-and-coming sensation (and our personal favorites) that go by the name LANY. LANY embodied Life is Beautiful, during their set on the main stage, singing songs they love with passion and honest experiences. Our final interview at Life is Beautiful was with Big Beat DJ and GRAMMY award-winner CID, who lit up the Trabadour stage with his unique sounds and his new song “Sweet Memories” with Kaskade.

Located in the center of the action, the Ambassador Stage rotated headliners with the Downtown Stage and a lively vibe filled the surrounding streets. Some of the biggest names in music graced this stage, including Jimmy Eat World, Young the Giant and our favorite The Lumineers, who may have made us shed a tear at the end of the night.

Young the Giant was breathtaking. Sameer took over the stage and the audience with huge hits like “Cough Medicine” in his red jumpsuit. He had everyone singing along. The Lumineers closed the night at this stage with new hits from their album “Cleopatra” and old favorites like “Flowers in Your Hair” and closed with “Stubborn Love.” Lead singer Wesley Schultz advised everyone to put their phones away and just help him sing. A festival full of strangers singing together is why “Life is Beautiful.”

Taking over the Downtown Stage, Flume got the party going with hits off his albums Flume and Skin. Electronic music pulsed through the crowd, as shuffling feet danced along to the beat. Major Lazer closed out the main stage with an epic performance. As the first back-to-back repeat, bass filled the air as the audience was awed by pyrotechnics while Diplo surfed the crowd in a giant hamster wheel. As the crowd danced, confetti cannons rang out and covered fans in glitter rain.

At the end of the weekend, guests were surprised as LED screens lit up with the announcement of next year’s Life is Beautiful dates, ramping up the excitement for another fun-filled year of beauty. We can’t wait for next year!
