Get to Know SoCal’s Amanda Lamb!

Hey CelebSecrets4U readers,

Everyone here at CelebSecrets4U would like to introduce you to a new artist that we think you should look out for… her name is Amanda Lamb! The Southern California native’s energetic smile exudes the playfulness of youth, but when you dig a little deeper, you find an old soul.  On her debut album Highwire, released on November 5, 2010, 16 year-old Amanda manages to walk the line between shimmering pop and heartfelt introspection with a sophistication beyond her years.

Just recently, CelebSecrets4U sat down with the pop star for an exclusive Q&A just for our readers! Take a read below…

Q: When did you first realize you had a passion for music?

A: “Well, it was my family who knew I was passionate about music before I even knew. As a baby, my mom would try to sing me to sleep with lullabies, but I would just stare at her, listening t0 her sing. As a toddler, I was the radio control freak! And we could only listen to my music (personal fave: Raffi), and no one could sing in the car! But it was perfectly okay if I sang to the radio! Hahaha 🙂 But things started getting pretty serious when I was 12, when I hit my mom up for a trip to Nashville to see a famous vocal teacher who told her to go ahead and let me pursue my dreams, because he thought I was probably on to something promising.”

Q: Who are your musical influences?

A: “So many! 🙂 For glam-pop, Adam Lambert, hands down. For mixing synthesizers and earthy sounds together, Owl City. For vocal performance so intimate it’s like she is cuddled up on your couch, Colbie Calliat, for sure! For personal style and just plainly being a badass, P!nk is my girl! I also listen to a lot of country – my first concert was Shania Twain! She was awesome! :)”

Q: Describe your style of music to our readers.

A: My style of music is definitely pop, and sometimes I indulge being singer/songwriter-ish. Meaningful lyrics are really important to me, and the lyrics usually have an effect on what the sound will be of the song. I’m adamant about using real drums, rather than programming, but I LOVE all electrical keyboard sounds! I hate comparisons, but I guess some people have compared my sound to be a little like Avril Lavigne.”

Q: Your album, Highwire, was just released in November. What was the recording process like?

A: “The recording process was incredible! Hearing my song ideas come to life and take form is an amazing experience – it’s like watching a baby take their first steps and then growing up before your eyes! 🙂 I absolutely loved being in the studio, even if there was long hours, lots and lots of hard work, and living like a mole, in a windowless room the entire day. All of the other musicians were guys, and it was hilarious hearing them remind me of my high harmony parts through the talk-back — they were barely squeaking out the notes, they were that high:) Being in the studio and recording that album was a dream come true, and I can’t wait to do it again!”

Q: Do you have a favorite track on the record?

A: “That’s a tough one! My favorite track on the record would have to be “Kiss Me Now”. I like it because its super catchy and it’s a sassy song. It’s got great synth lines and effects, and I love the tagline! This song is also my favorite because my friends are singing the chant as the song fades out. Great memories!

Q: If you could collaborate with one other artist for a mashup, who would you choose?

A: “Oh my gosh! Ha ha! There are so many artists I want to collaborate with, but I would have to choose Owl City! I love his sound and everything about his music! (And also he’s pretty cute!)”

Q: Do you have any upcoming musical projects/possible tour coming up?

A: Well, I am writing new songs and possibly thinking about doing an EP! I have recently written a song that is aimed at encouragement for victims of bullying, which I hope to release as a single soon. No tour planned yet, but lots of shows in the Los Angeles, OC area. Lots of exciting stuff coming up!”

Q: Since our website is all about secrets, can you share one secret about yourself?

A: “A lot of people are surprised to learn that I have Type 1 Diabetes. I’ve had it since I was 15 months old (16 years) but I don’t let that get me down. I carry on living a normal life, but I just have this one extra thing to think and care about. As far as insider-like secrets go… I know the lyrics to almost every one of Weird Al Yankovic’s covers, and I drive people nuts singing their favorite songs with the “twisted” lyrics. Haha – I like to push people’s buttons a bit sometimes;)”
