Grace Potter & the Nocturnals Announce Final Leg of The Roar Tour (@gracepotter)

The cumulative effects of years of constant touring and the commensurate building of a loyal base one fan at a time have begun to pay off big for Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. During the most recent leg of their Roar Tour, these road warriors, who have grown into a formidable live band during a near-decade of crisscrossing the country, consistently sold out shows, having to add multiple nights in several cities to meet the demand. The tour, which will continue through September, is quickly turning into one of the summer’s hottest tickets. “This is the final leg, and we’re gonna go out with a f—in’ bang,” Grace promises.

To satisfy an ever-growing demand, Grace is inviting fans to make their song requests for every date this summer by tweeting @gracepotter using #GPNsetlists, along with #city.

GPN’s headlining dates, interspersed with runs of shows with their friends Dave Matthews Band and the Avett Brothers, will be bookended by a series of what promise to be memorable concerts with bona fide Hall of Famers. Robert Plant has selected the band to accompany him and his group the Sensational Space Shifters on a West Coast swing starting June 26 at the Shrine in L.A., and in September they’ll join the Allman Brothers Band for multiple dates on the East Coast.

“We’ve toured with Dave all the way back to our early days, and we just came back from a European tour with the Avetts,” Grace points out. “We’ve collaborated extensively with Derek and Warren [Trucks and Haynes, respectively, who do double duty in the Allman Brothers band and their own groups] over the years. These are our friends—people we’ve continued to circle with—and we’re all still at it.”

“This will be a good little run,” Gregg Allman said of the scintillating bill. “We’ve been listening to a lot of Grace’s stuff, so I imagine we’re going to have a bunch of fun together.”

Plant’s interest was piqued when he saw an as yet unreleased live-performance video of “The Lion The Beast The Beat” by award-winning director Shaun Silva. He was sufficiently intrigued to rise early just after arriving in Australia to catch GPN’s opening set at the West Coast Blues N’ Roots Festival in Fremantle, 10 hours before his own headlining performance, unbeknownst to the band. Soon after they left the stage, the legendary artist’s emissary approached them and said, to their astonishment, “Mr. Plant requests an audience with you.” During the hour they spent together, the band and Plant bonded, and soon thereafter they received an invitation to join him on the road.

The band will come full circle when they return to their home state of Vermont for the third edition of GPN’s own festival, Grand Point North, in Burlington on Sept. 14-15. Haynes’ Govt Mule, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue , Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires, City and Colour, Felice Brothers and Shovels & Rope and are among the acts confirmed for what promises to be another glorious end-of-summer weekend on the shores of Lake Champlain.

“This is the year when Grand Point North is gonna stake its claim as one of the must-see festivals,” Grace asserts. “I’m already feeling the momentum. It’s gratifying to have created a destination festival in a picturesque city overlooking the Adirondacks and know that people are coming no matter who’s playing. Grand Point North is one of those festivals that’s going to endure, not based on massive numbers—we’re always going to keep it human-scaled—but because people know it’s going to be a spirited event that you can’t experience anywhere else.”
