The Amazing Athletes

Over 200 athletes are touching down in Aspen today to prepare for what could be one of the most important (and exhilarating) competitions of their lives later this week. This year’s roster is uber talented, as some are even heading to Pyeongchang, South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games to represent their countries in just a few short weeks.

Out of all the athletes competing this year, Celeb Secrets compiled a list of athletes you should keep your eye on this weekend — skiers Aaron Blunck and Maddie Bowman, snowboarders Scotty James and Hailey Langland, and snowmobiler Joe Parsons.

At only 21, Aaron Blunck already has seven X Games appearances, including gold from Aspen 2017. He also took an impressive 7th at the 2014 Sochi Olympics as the youngest American male to compete on the halfpipe team (then 17- years-old). Blunck had a great 2016 which was highlighted by podiums at the Grand Prix in Mammoth (3rd) and the Grand Prix in Park City (1st).

Maddie Bowman earned her eighth straight SuperPipe medal in 2017, with a bronze, after taking silver in X Games Oslo 2016. In 2015, Bowman had two knee surgeries in less than year, and while that would have set most skiers back, she quickly found her way to the top of the podium at X Games Aspen 2016 for the third consecutive time. When she’s not skiing, Bowman, 2014 Winter Olympic halfpipe champion, takes classes at Westminster College.

Already a two-time Olympian, 22-year-old Aussie Scotty James clinched his first X Games gold medal last year in Snowboard SuperPipe. In 2016, James became the first male Australian snowboarder to medal in SuperPipe at X Games when he earned SuperPipe bronze. A technical rider with a great attitude, Scotty puts a lot of style and switch tricks into his run. James took home second place at the Dew Tour Breckenridge.

The up-and-coming face of American slopestyle snowboarding, Hailey Langland took X Games Big Air gold at Aspen 2017, landing a women’s competition-first cab double cork 1080 in the process. Langland took home bronze in Slopestyle as a rookie at X Games Aspen 2016, firmly cementing her name among the world’s elite at just 15-years-old. She joins joins fellow Southern California teen Chloe Kim as the present and future of snowboarding, flashing style on and off the mountain and showing a desire to progress the sport with cutting-edge tricks.

The most decorated snowmobiler in X Games history with an astounding 17 medals, Joe Parsons also has the second-most X Games winter event medals in history. In 2013, Parsons became the first male to earn three medals at a single X Games winter event, only the second person in history to do it. Parsons trains at home with freestyle riders Heath Frisby and Cory Davis. Parsons’ signature trick is the backflip combo Gator Wrestler, discovered by accident in 2012.
