Here’s How You Can Recreate Camila Cabello & Other Stars’ Hairstyles from the 2018 MTV VMAs

From Camila Cabello‘s fun waves to Jasmine Sanders‘ sleek bun, the 2018 MTV VMAs red carpet was filled with celebrities donning chic hairstyles that gave us major hair envy the entire night.

Luckily for us, hairstylist Caitlin O’Donnell of NYC’s Kieran McKenna Salon gave us some easy DIY tips and tricks on how to recreate these iconic looks so we too can slay the day (and night) away wherever we may be.

Keep scrolling to learn how to take some of Monday night’s iconic looks from the red carpet to not only the office, but to date night and more.

Rita Ora’s Slicked Waves

“For a naturally wavy hair texture, use Oribe Curl Control and Curl Gloss after shampooing and conditioning to enhance and define your natural wave pattern (either allowing enough time to air dry or dry with a diffuser attachment). Then using Oribe Gel Serum to get the perfect wet slick back look, gently comb roots of your hair all back with large tooth comb or your fingers. Spray mid lengths to ends with Oribe Apres Beach to give your hair luster and shine,” O’Donnell shares.

“If you don’t have a natural wave to your hair, either air dry or rough dry after shampoo and conditioning. Then add beachy waves with a small to medium barrel curling iron and repeat the previous steps from above.”

Jasmine Sanders’ High Bun

After shampooing and conditioning the hair, apply Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream to give the hair some moisture and shine then smooth out mid-lengths and ends using a large round brush.  Put it up in a high ponytail using a Mason & Pearson like brush to create a sleek brushed back look, being sure you leave a center part, secure with an elastic hair tie. Twist the length of the ponytail while wrapping it around into a ballerina bun and securing with bobby pins.  Finish the look by using Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray to take care of any fly-aways and keep the look in place.”

Camila Cabello’s Loose Waves

“Apply a dime size amount of Oribe Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream and with a large round brush blowdry your hair smooth.  Use a large curling iron to give your hair a loose wave texture then spray with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to keep that texture intact.  Tease the crown area using Oribe Swept Up Volume Powder Spray, secure crown with bobby pins allowing some pieces to fall, framing your face.”

Dascha Polanco’s Ponytail

“After shampoo and conditioning, apply Oribe Smooth Style Serum to your mid-lengths and ends and rough dry. With a small curling iron, curl your hair. If you don’t have long hair, a good tip is to create two ponytails one on top of the other.  The first ponytail should be hair from your ears forward in a high ponytail at your crown (be sure not to create a perfect part to give the illusion that your hair is in one ponytail), wrap a piece of hair around the elastic and secure with bobby pin.  Second ponytail is created with the remaining hair placed 1 ½-2”s below the first ponytail.  Spray in the middle of two ponytails with Oribe Swept Up Powder Spray and slightly tease to keep second ponytail hidden.”
