Kevin Chamberlin To Star In Broadway’s “Wicked”

To me, Kevin Chamberlin is two very different — yet equally lovable — people. First and foremost, I know him as the fan-beloved character Bertram on Disney Channel’s throwback hit show Jessie. Because come on, he’s just incredible. But the actor is also an iconic Broadway star, who never fails to entertain us live onstage with his impressive character range. For his next role, Kevin is taking on a legendary part in a wildly successful theatrical hit: he will be playing the Wizard in Broadway’s musical production of Wicked. And, I’m happy to report, there’s a little Jessie reference in the role.

According to Playbill, Kevin will be joining the cast for his first show on May 22, taking over from current Wizard Fred Appelgate who is ending his performance run on May 20. More featured actors in the cast include Jackie Burns as Elphaba, Amanda Jane Cooper as Glinda, Ashley Parker Angel as Fiyero, Isabel Keating as Madame Morrible, Jye Frasca as Boq, Kristen Martin as Nessarose, and Martin Moran as Dr. Dillamond.

Did you notice the acting crossover? Kevin is reuniting with Amanda Jane Cooper, who made a Broadway-themed guest appearance on Jessie for the “Understudied & Overdone” episode back in 2013. What a perfect reference!

This cast’s Twitter exchange is already everything.

Kevin has appeared in many New York City stage productions, and has earned himself Tony Awards nominations for his work in other standout shows: Seussical, Dirty Blonde, and The Addams Family. I personally last saw him in the creative Broadway musical Disaster!, and he was absolutely wonderful. I can’t wait to see his interpretation of the beloved Oz character.

If you go, Wicked is now playing at the Gershwin Theatre, located at 222 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019. Tickets are available at the theater box office and through Ticketmaster on the show’s official website portal.
