Check out ABC’s new show, Dr. Ken! Ken Jeong (Community, The Hangover) plays Dr. Ken, a brilliant physician with no bedside manner. He’s trying to be a good doctor, as well as a good husband and father to his two kids. However, his good intentions have a way of driving everyone crazy at both work and at home. Luckily, his therapist wife, Allison, is just the right partner to keep things sane.

CelebSecrets4U chatted with Krista Marie Yu, who plays Dr. Ken’s daughter, Molly, to get the scoop on the new show, her character and how she landed the role in the first place.

In the interview, Krista also talked about what it was like working with Ken Jeong, her role in the upcoming movie Love the Coopers, and what new fall TV show she’s excited to watch. Plus, she may mention a Stitch doll that she can’t sleep without — make sure to check out the interview below!

In tonight’s episode “The Seminar,” Pat (Dave Foley) tells Dr. Ken (Ken Jeong) that he must attend physician sensitivity training after some patients’ complained about their visit. Ken is not happy about it. He thinks the seminar is “redonkulous,” but Damona (Tisha Campbell-Martin) and Pat think the situation is hilarious.

Dr. Ken airs October 9th at 8:30 PM ET/PT on ABC.

Check out a promo for tonight’s episode below.

CS4U: You’re going to be in ABC’s new fall comedy “Dr. Ken,” playing Dr. Ken’s daughter Molly. How did you get the role?

Krista Marie Yu: “I was lucky enough to land an audition for Molly Park, and auditioned four times! Ken was at three of the auditions reading the other lines opposite me. To see him there really reflected how dedicated and passionate he is about the show, which to me is a huge sign that, with so much care, the show would be a dream to work on. The producers and creators were also all very devoted and enthusiastic. In the audition, they made sure to give us the time and space to play and explore the scene during the audition, in order to bring out the best possible delivery of the character they were looking for. As an actor, you don’t always get that chance in the audition room. I had an incredible experience auditioning, and it was SO fun to play off of Ken. I’m so thankful toward Ken, the producers, and the Casting Director for giving me the opportunity to play Molly Park. I was working as a hostess when I got the phone call.”

CS4U: What can we expect from the show and your character?

Krista Marie Yu: “Dr. Ken is a fun and silly family sitcom about a doctor with terrible bedside manner, trying to juggle his life at work and at home as a parent and husband. I play Molly Park, Ken and Allison Park’s 16 year old daughter. Molly is a smart, fun and fashionable teen girl who just got her driver’s license! She is very responsible, but also very social, and is glued to her phone. Like any teen girl, she is constantly trying to test the limits and boundaries of her parents. She definitely causes a lot of problems at home that I bet lots of families can relate to. In these first episodes, you’ll discover Molly is quite a sassy girl, which one can definitely assume comes from her dad.”

CS4U: You get to work with Ken Jeong who has been in some pretty hilarious movies. What was it like working with him?

Krista Marie Yu: “Ken is non-stop making me laugh. I go home everyday smiling from ear- to-ear because my endorphins are so high from laughing. He is such a hard worker too – he pours his heart into this show. I think most importantly though, he is a kind and generous person. For this very reason, I’m excited for viewers to see the show, because in addition to his fun and crazy side, we also get to see his caring and loving side – which makes the show a great and special family show to be a part of.

I also learn a lot from him everyday. Ken is a comedic genius, and getting to watch and work with him is a firsthand lesson in comedy that I will forever value.”

CS4U: What do you think makes this show stand out from the other comedies being released this fall?

Krista Marie Yu: “Ken Jeong is one of the most brave and bold comedians. His combination of physical humor and wild choices are definitely going to give viewers a fun, kooky, stand-out kind of entertainment when watching. This show is also one of two Asian-American based shows on TV right now, which is important because it is another step toward reflecting a more realistic American society on screen.”

CS4U: You’re also going to star in the movie Love the Coopers, which has an incredible cast. Were you nervous working with them? What have you learned from them?

Krista Marie Yu: “I have a very small part in ‘Love the Coopers’, but working with Ed Helms and Alan Arkin was super exciting! What I admire most about Ed Helms is how kind and calm he is off-camera, which made any sort of nerves melt away. Alan Arkin is a legend – just watching him work was such an honor.”

CS4U: Can you tell us about the movie and your character?

Krista Marie Yu: “The movie really highlights the importance of family. The director Jessie Nelson actually directed one of my favorite movies, Corinna, Corinna. I play the role of Lily the florist, in a beautiful greenhouse at the Frick. It was a special scene for me because I went to school in Pittsburgh, PA, so it was cool to be shooting there. Go Steelers!”

CS4U: Is there a new fall show that you’re excited about?

Krista Marie Yu: “‘The Muppets’ just premiered!!! I love the Muppets!”

CS4U: What do you do when you’re not busy filming?

Krista Marie Yu: “I love going home to Oakland, CA to visit my grandma. She just turned 90! I think family is very important. If I can’t get all the way up to the bay area, you can probably catch me enjoying a movie, cooking, or exploring a local art fair! I also love ballet.”

CS4U: Since “Dr. Ken” is a comedy show, can you tell us your favorite joke?

Krista Marie Yu: “I’m a big fan of play on words!! Those always make me laugh. Also pretty much anything Dave Foley says.”

CS4U: Since we are CelebSecrets4U, can you tell us a secret about yourself that fans may not know?

Krista Marie Yu: “I love affirmations! I truly believe in keeping a positive mind and warm heart. I can’t fall asleep without my Stitch doll. Thank CelebSecrets4U!!!”
