Happy Leap Day readers!
We recently caught up with the lovely Kyla Pratt (The Proud Family, Dr. Doolittle) who plays Trish Tomlinson on FreeForm’s newest drama series Recovery Road. Pratt talked exclusively to CelebSecrets4U about the show, her bubbly character Trish, and tonight’s all-new episode – make sure to read our Q&A!
In tonight’s episode “Heaven Backwards,” Trish (Kyla Pratt) faces a crisis of her own, which puts Maddie (Jessica Sula) between a rock and a hard place. We also get a deeper look at Wes’ (Sebastian De Souza) troubled past while the other members of the house reach out to each other for consolation. In the midst of all the chaos, a startling truth is revealed at Springtime Meadows.
Recovery Road airs Monday, February 29, 2016 at 9:00pm ET on Freeform.
Check out some clips and stills from tonight’s episode below.
CS4U: On the show you play Trish Tomlinson who’s a recovery addict and a mother. Can you tell us more about Trish and her back story?
Kyla Pratt: “I was drawn to her because she’s very bubbly, very optimistic. She’s the life and energy of the house, but knowing she’s in a sober living house, I could tell that there’s something deeper going on with her. No one is that happy all the damn time! She’s just a lovely, mothering, and caring person. She has a daughter, and at the end of episode 5, we find out her daughter’s missing, and in episode 6, we get more into where that’s going. I enjoy being her and showing her back story and seeing that she’s a bubbly person now but that’s not who she always was and seeing what brought her there. I can’t wait for you guys to see that episode! “
CS4U: With you being a mother yourself, what advice would you give Trish and any mothers out there who are going through the same battle?
Kyla Pratt: “That’s difficult because every battle is different and that’s why I love this show. It’s not geared towards one gender, one race, or a certain sexuality. It’s something that affects us all so it’s hard to tell someone what to do or how to do it. From the things that I’ve watched and the things that I’ve read, it’s an everyday battle. The only advice I feel that I can give is to take it one day at a time and to stay strong for your kids or the future kids you may possible have. “
CS4U: That’s great advice! So for the upcoming episode, Trish believes that her mother kidnapped her daughter and took her to a type of religious cult. Can you tell us more about the episode and whether or not Trish does get her daughter back?
Kyla Pratt: “We filmed this episode in real time so it gives the audience that feeling that they are actually in the room with us. We deal with the Police and every possible situation that we feel Trish’s mother might have put her daughter through. I can’t get into whether we get her back, but it’s a game changer. You have to watch it! I’m so excited this episode is finally airing! “
CS4U: In addition to what’s going on with Trish, Wes is keeping a secret of his own and there will ALSO be a huge reveal at Springtime Meadows. Can you give us some clues as to what the disturbing truth will be and if it’s about Wes?
Kyla Pratt: “Well in episode 5, Wes reveals that his brother comes into the house and as the episode progresses, we see how Wes and everyone became the way that they are. We get a deeper look at his childhood and family and Wes’ family has something up his sleeve so you’ll have to tune in for that! You really fall in love with the characters and the way the writers have written it.”
CS4U: Other than Recovery Road, are you working on anything else at the moment?
Kyla Pratt: “No, nothing right now. I’m reading scripts here and doing auctions there, but I’m just really focused on this show and motherhood right now. I’m dabbling in some stuff though so you might see some stuff come through.”
CS4U: A lot of 90s shows are getting revived (Boy Meets World, Full House), how would you feel if The Proud Family were to come back?
Kyla Pratt: “I’m absolutely in love with that idea! I’ve seen that idea circling around the Internet for a while and I’ve seen drawings of a grown-up Penny Proud. It’s great because I love animation. I don’t have to do my make-up or hair, I could just show up and be loud! I would love to be a part of that process and I wish they would pull something together because that would be really tight!”
CS4U: Since we are CelebSecrets4U, do you have any behind the scene secrets from Recovery Road or other shows/movies you’ve done in the past?
Kyla Pratt: “All I can say is, people have always asked about the people I’ve worked with and everyone I’ve been blessed to work with has been amazing. It’s been really great! As far as Recovery Road, I’m just really glad to be working with those people and I hope to keep it going!”
