Kylie Hughes Talks Her New Music Video For “Never Ever” & Future Music – Read Our Exclusive Q&A Here!

Last month, pop songstress Kylie Hughes debuted the music video for her new song “Never Ever.”

“Never Ever” is Hughes’ first single off of her debut EP Calipopicana. Produced and co-written by Brent Bourgeouis, the single features a very intimate and soulful sound and her brand new music video for the song blends perfect with Hughes’ angelic vocals. The video features a single, drifting rose in misty waters, a candelabra flickering through twisted tree branches and Hughes layered in white lace and chiffon, donning a vintage tiara, and it’s absolutely mesmerizing.

Celeb Secrets caught up with Kylie Hughes recently to talk about her visually stunning music video and the thought process that went into putting the music video together. Hughes also talked about her full-length album that she hopes to release this year, her very unique music genre and her favorite spots in Malibu and LA, so make sure to read our exclusive Q&A with her below!

Celeb Secrets: You just released the music video for your song “Never Ever.” First off, what can you tell us about the track?

Kylie Hughes: “I can tell you that it is special because I don’t have any other song that I have written like it. It has a full strings orchestra that was recorded in Ireland. Sometimes I just listen to the strings track in the recording by itself. I know nothing about classical music or playing even a violin but I can appreciate something beautiful when I hear it. And what they did to my song, is stand out, absolutely beautiful.”

Celeb Secrets: The music video is visually stunning. We know that you came up with everything yourself, so what inspired it?

Kylie Hughes: “Just the words of the song already paint a pretty literal picture. So instead of actually having a groom actor or showing a wedding, I felt people could read between the lines if we show more of the emotion behind the words. Being alone, wandering and vulnerable.”

Celeb Secrets: Your genre is very unique. What exactly is calipopicana and what made you want to start making music in this genre?

Kylie Hughes: “Calipopicana is an EP I did in 2014 that had a very specific California, retro and playful sound. It was a fun project that I feel like we nailed conceptually in a 360 view of what a female front woman to the “Beach Boys” would look and sound like. “Never Ever” and my last single “It Still Hurts” are more of the direction I am headed in now… It’s still colorful but it’s moody and dark.”

Celeb Secrets: Are you working on a full-length album anytime soon?

Kylie Hughes: “Yes! I am currently writing and recording my butt off so I should have something to release in 2016, for sure.”

Celeb Secrets: You’re very into your west coast roots. What are some of your favorite spots in Malibu or even LA that you’re always at?

Kylie Hughes: “It’s funny, Malibu is such a small scene that I have watched change a lot over the last 20 years…but when I think of my favorite places there, it’s always hanging at someone’s house. BUT Cross Creek is always my favorite place to shop, SunLife Organic’s Vanilla “Black Gold” Smoothie is my go-to post work out drink. It has coffee and protein and it’s awesome. Café Organicá, Alfred’s… basically a lot of coffee shops, haha.”

Celeb Secrets: Since our website is called Celeb Secrets, can you share a secret (fun fact, hidden talent, something we don’t know) about yourself to our readers?

Kylie Hughes: “I recorded “Never Ever” completely in the nude. Just kidding…BUT when I went and found that wedding dress for the shoot at David’s Bridal, I lied to the chick helping me and told her I was getting married in 2 weeks so that I could walk out with the dress that day. She definitely thought I was knocked up or something.”
