You never forget first-time moments, and for Maddie & Tae, there have been many milestones recently.

Fresh from debuting on Billboard’s Country Album charts right behind Luke Bryan with their debut album START HERE (Dot Records), this morning brought not one, not two, but three CMA Award nominations. When the nominees were called, the singer/songwriters found themselves up for Vocal DuoNew Artist and Video of the Year for “Girl In A Country Song.”

“It was our only day off since two weeks before START HERE was released,” Maddie says. “And we could hardly sleep wondering what was going to happen…”

“And then…wow!” Tae continues. “We grew up watching these shows, seeing all the stars – and just getting to go last year was so fun. But to be up for actual awards? For songs that are taken from Maddie and my life? That is everything we were dreaming of when we were driving back and forth to Nashville for songwriting weekends when we were 15 years old.”

“This is crazy,” Maddie picks up, “but great crazy.”

It’s been a whirlwind ride for the pair from Sugar Land, Texas and Ada, Oklahoma. After inking a record deal while in the studio doing vocals for “Girl In A Country Song,” Maddie & Tae were slingshot onto a radio promo tour, made a role-flipping video and found themselves with a #1 Platinum-certified single before year’s end and over 26.6 million VEVO views of their nominated clip.

“We started writing songs because no one was writing our life,” Tae says. “Maddie and I felt so strongly there were other people out there going through what we were, feeling the things we were… and trying to figure out who we were in the process. The fact all these amazing things keep happening, well, that’s incredible!”

“There’s so much more to do, and see, and sing,” Maddie agrees. “With ‘Fly’ starting to kick in, it’s a song about not giving up, about trusting when it’s hard and still putting everything into it. This morning, made all those stumbles we’ve had, those too early mornings and cancelled flights, superlong drives, missing our families mean something. It just goes to show, you really can fly if you just keep trying!”

“And be really grateful when these kinds of mornings happen,” Tae adds. “This is one of the best wake-up calls of our lives!”

With the Dierks Bentley SOUNDS OF SUMMER TOUR winding down, Maddie & Tae are gearing up for their first headlining tour – kicking off October 7 at New York City’s Highline Ballroom. The talented pair isn’t slowing down and you can bet the young women empowering other young women will be standing tall at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena November 4 for the CMA Awards.
