After a day full of press including two performances on the TODAY Show, Maddie & Tae entertained fans at the flagship Dylan’s Candy Bar on the Upper East Side in Manhattan on Tuesday evening (September 1). Owned by fashion designer and business mogul Ralph Lauren’s daughter, Dylan Lauren, the boutique confectionary shop is a favorite among celebrities and fashion’s elite alike.
Fans were invited for a sweet treat through a contest in partnership with NASH FM in New York. Maddie & Tae and treated greeted guests, posing for selfies and dishing out unlimited amounts of candy. Twizzlers! Swedish Fish! Gummy Peach Rings! Every sugary goodness was available from sweet to savory. Maddie adorned attendees with branded stickers and badges, which included codes for complimentary copies of START HERE. The room was filled with young girls who sang along, some sporting self-made t-shirts with the lyrics from songs on START HERE written out. Others brought along gifts for the pair.
Dot Records General Manager Chris Stacey addressed the room and praised his first signing of the newly re-launched label, explaining how Maddie & Tae have made history by being one of only three female duos to top the Billboard charts with a debut single. “These girls are the real deal. Thank you for being here and for believing in them.”
Maddie & Tae then grabbed their guitars and performed four songs from START HERE, explaining the story behind each and how they co-wrote all 11 tracks on the album. The Texas and Oklahoma natives, respectively, opened with their current Top 10 single “Fly” and closed with their #1 Platinum-certified hit “Girl In A Country Song.”
“It is so cool to see you singing along,” said 20-year-old Maddie. “You know the words to ‘Shut Up And Fish?!’ That proves to us you have been listening to the album. Wow! Thank you!” exclaimed 19-year-old Tae.
