The video for “Boom” is reminiscent of late 80s / early 90s pop videos with bursts of colorful artwork and youthfulness throughout.
“I had so much fun filming this video because I got to work with my brother 8ky6lu and Big Bad University,” says Mahogany LOX. “All I wanted was for the video to be fun and for you to smile while watching it… I can’t wait to look at the comments to see if I have achieved my goal.”
The single, like everything in Mahogany’s life, was a family affair as it was produced by her older brother 8ky6lu (one half of party rock duo LMFAO).
“She is one of the most talented, fun and naturally gifted people Big Bad and I have ever worked with,” says 8ky6lu of LMFAO. “It’s an honor to be a part of my little sister’s first single ‘BOOM.’ That’s not just because she’s my sister. I’m very proud of her.”
“Boom” comes fresh off the heels of her supporting female powerhouse group Fifth Harmony on The Reflection Tour, which covered 22 US cities earlier this year.
Born Mahogany Cheyenne Gordy, she was named after the iconic film Mahogany which was directed and produced by her grandfather and Motown Records founder Berry Gordy. With Berry as her grandfather and LMFAO as relatives, music is clearly in her blood. Like all young girls, Mahogany grew up with a hairbrush in her hand singing throughout her childhood. It was in 2013 that she began sharing her videos on YouTube and built a following of devout fans called the LOXSmiths with over 1M+ followers on Instagram, 1M+ twitter, 1M Vine.
When Mahogany is not performing or connecting with her devout following of LOXSmiths, she expresses herself through acting and fashion. She has taken improv classes at The Groundlings and sketches original fashion designs in her spare time, guided by the fashion culture in Tokyo and Betsey Johnson.
