Mariah Carey is going to be honored at the 27th Annual GLAADÂ AwardsÂ next month!
The media advocacy organization that raises awareness for the worldâ€™s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communityÂ will honor the singer, songwriter, record producer and actress at the ceremony. Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels will present Carey with the award.
Carey will receive GLAADâ€™s Ally Award, which is presented to a media figure who has consistently used their platform to support and advance LGBT equality and acceptance. Previous GLAAD Media Awards honorees include Elizabeth Taylor, Patti LaBelle, Janet Jackson, Russell Simmons, Cher, and more.
â€œThrough her music and outspoken support, Mariah Carey has inspired and empowered countless LGBT fans across the globe,â€ said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. â€œShe is a longtime ally and friend to the LGBT community who has worked tirelessly to move acceptance and inclusion forward.â€
GLAAD previously announced that Robert De Niro will receive the Excellence in Media Award at the New York ceremony. Emmy Award-winning actress and producer Laverne Cox will host the event.
The 27thÂ Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Delta Air Lines, Hilton, Ketel One Vodka, and Wells Fargo. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for equality and acceptance.
The 27thÂ Annual GLAAD Media Awards will be heldÂ at the Waldorf Astoria New York on May 14, 2016.
