No matter what your views are, everyone is (or at least should be) aware of the political and social climate our country is in today.
A huge controversial topic that’s been making headlines is Trump Administration’s failure to reunify families at the U.S./Mexican border when attempting to enter our country. After multiple news stations released footage of children being held in cages, citizens from all over participated in a peaceful demonstration organized by Families Belong Together to help raise awareness to the situation in hopes of reuniting children with their families before the July 26th deadline.
Unfortunately, that deadline has passed, and many children are still being abused and locked in cages. We Stand United, along with celebrity activists Mark Ruffalo and Common, released a short video about the ongoing humanitarian crisis, featuring distraught parents and children at the U.S. border and humanitarian workers describing the conditions they are facing.
“We are in the midst of a humanitarian crisis here on U.S. soil. The Trump Administration has failed to comply with the court order to reunify all the families that have been separated at the U.S. border,” Ruffalo says in the video.
“We need to help these families. We will not rest until all the children are out of cages and back in their parents’ arms,” Common added.
The video is set to Andra Day‘s Grammy-nominated song “Rise Up” and even shows moving footage of a mother being reunited with her eight-year-old son.
Not all families are as lucky as the one featured in the video below. Many parents are being forced to pay to get their kids back, sometimes thousands of dollars, and many of them came here with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We can, however, all help put an end to this by donating to Families Belong Together. Our contributions will help reunite families, including transportation costs.
