We had the chance to catch an early screening of Marvel’s newest blockbuster, Iron Man 3. The film serves as a sequel to both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, picking up where Tony Stark’s adventure with the Avengers left off. Iron Man 3 pits Stark/Iron Man against a terrorist known as The Mandarin and a form of biological weaponry called Extremis, all while dealing with the mentally destabilizing after-effects of the events of The Avengers, which has thrown Stark into uncertainty. When his home life is destroyed, Stark must rely on his instincts and ingenuity to fight back and save those important to him.
Iron Man 3 continues and improves on the franchise’s blend of action, angst, and dry humor courtesy of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, who must deal with post-traumatic stress, the potential loss of girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and surprising new enemies that he may himself helped create. The film is fast-paced in its edge-of-your-seat comic book action, but roots its heart in Stark’s relationships with Pepper, a young boy named Harley (Ty Simpkins) who becomes invaluable help, and with his identity as Iron Man. It provides a satisfying ending to what has become a trilogy, but promises that the character of Iron Man will continue to thrill audiences in future Marvel projects. If you love Marvel and the Iron Man series, you will not be disappointed, and if you aren’t, we’d recommend catching up on the saga and taking yourself to see Iron Man 3 in theaters May 3rd!
