Music Monday: Meet Brettyn Rose

Happy Monday, readers!

Meet our new Music Monday artist – Brettyn Rose.

Ever since Brettyn was five, her focus was always on music. Her interest began when she attended singing lessons in Calgary and it quickly grew from there. Brettyn started to explore others aspects of music which led her to learn how to play the piano, guitar, and most recently – the ukulele. Attracted to the dark-pop genre, our Canadian native looks up to many critically acclaimed artists such as Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes for inspiration. To gear up for the release of her much-anticipated debut album, “Walking with No Shoes”, Rose has released an array of cover songs on her YouTube channel including “Bright” by Echosmith, We’ll Be the Stars” by Sabrina Carpenter, and more.

We recently caught up with the singer to talk about her upcoming album, her relationship with Youth Singers of Calgary, her future endeavors, and much more!

Celeb Secrets: What do you like to do in your free time?

Brettyn Rose: “I enjoy listening to music while baking. I also like reading, camping, quadding, and swimming.”

Celeb Secrets: What can we expect from your upcoming music video for “Walking with No Shoes?”

Brettyn Rose: “Walking with No Shoes is a song about enjoying the freedom to let life lead you down any type of path. You don’t need to conform to the wishes of other people, but you are free to “walk” wherever your steps may lead you. I’m excited to see the beautiful scenery of the park and beaches where we filmed the video.”

Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us more about your forthcoming album? Do you have a release date yet?

Brettyn Rose: “I decided to change the name to Walking with No Shoes, as I felt it was more reflective of my musical journey. The album will consist of 10 original songs, of which only 2 have been released, so people buying the album will get to hear a lot of new music! I hope it will be released sometime in the next month.”

Celeb Secrets: Is there a song off the album that you’re most excited to perform live?

Brettyn Rose: “That is a tough question. I am always very excited to perform all of my music live. I am very happy and excited for everyone to hear all of them. It is the best feeling to be able to perform your own music as I have such a connection to the songs, and I look forward to my fans feeling that same connection. Performing brings the songs to life.”

Celeb Secrets: In only 3 words, can you describe your music?

Brettyn Rose: “Relatable, truth, and heartfelt.”

Celeb Secrets: Who inspired you to become a singer?

Brettyn Rose: “I’m not sure any one person inspired me. I started piano and voice lessons at a young age and as I grew, so did my passion for music. Ed Sheeran has been a huge inspiration on my writing and music. His music is so honest and really makes you feel something, and that’s what I hope my music can do as well.”

Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us more about Youth Singers of Calgary and why you decided to join the program?

Brettyn Rose: “Youth Singers of Calgary is an organization that provides the opportunity for people of all ages to participate in a musical and performance program. In addition to singing, we learn choreography and performing skills. Youth Singers puts on two major productions, and we also have a touring program. I joined the organization because it provided me with the perfect outlet to learn more about singing and dancing, and because it gave me an opportunity to grow as a performer and individual.”

Celeb Secrets: Other than your album, are you currently working on any other projects?

Brettyn Rose: “Now that school is out and exams are over, I will once again start concentrating on song writing. However, my main focus right now is getting my album ready for release. I am hoping to do some more performances this summer!”

Celeb Secrets: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Brettyn Rose: “During the next five years, I hope to keep growing as a songwriter and as a musician. I want to continue to share my thoughts and emotions with fans through song and performance. I will be finished high school and continuing with my music. Basically, just putting one foot in front of the other and see where walking barefoot takes me.”

Celeb Secrets: For our readers who have yet to discover you, why should they give your music a chance?

Brettyn Rose: “I would hope that fans would consider me an honest musician who produces heartfelt music to which anyone can relate. I would like them to FEEL – happy, sad, whatever. I would consider it an accomplishment if the fans would feel connected to me and to my music.”

Celeb Secrets: And since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have a secret or fun fact about yourself that you’d like to share?

Brettyn Rose: “Well at 15, I don’t have many secrets – my life pretty much consists of school and music. But a fun fact is that I can’t whistle or wink and I love to walk barefoot.”
