Music Monday: Meet Dylan Bernard

Happy Monday, readers!

Meet our new Music Monday artist this week, Dylan Bernard.

Dylan is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from New Jersey that found his love for music when his mother placed him in a children’s church choir when he was only four-years-old. Unfortunately, a couple years later, Dylan’s mother lost her battle with type two diabetes. He lost touch with music completely.

As he grew older, he began to rediscover his love for the art. He would sing around his friends and family. They encouraged him to post his videos online so others could see them. Since then, Dylan has shared the stage and participated in events alongside artists such as IM5, Drake Bell, Beverly McClellan, Trevin Hunte, Cody Simpson, and more.

The end of 2016 has been exciting for Bernard — he released his new single “Flames” along with a stunning music video. “The song tells the story of a relationship coming to an end. Both people in the relationship know that the end is near, and they have to decide to call it quits, before things get worse,” he says.

Celeb Secrets caught up with Dylan recently to talk all things music! Take a read at the Q&A below to learn more about him and his music, and keep up with Dylan by following him on Twitter at @DTBMuzic.

Celeb Secrets: When did you realize your passion for music?

Dylan Bernard: “I really discovered my passion for music when my mom put me in a church choir at a young age. I immediately fell in love with singing, and eventually, I started posting covers online, and then writing my own music.”

Celeb Secrets: How would you describe your sound to our readers?

Dylan Bernard: “My sound is definitely more of a raw pop. A lot of what I’ve been working on is driven by acoustic guitar or piano. I love playing with interesting melodies and adding riffs and runs to my music.”

Celeb Secrets: Your single, “Flames,” finally debuted. What is the meaning behind the song?

Dylan Bernard: “The song tells the story of a relationship coming to an end. Both people in the relationship know that the end is near, and they have to decide to call it quits, before things get worse.”

Celeb Secrets: Along with the single came a music video; what’s the inspiration behind the video?

Dylan Bernard: “I’d say the music video was inspired by the simplicity of the song. ‘Flames,’ is a stripped down piano ballad, and we wanted the video to stay true to that.”

Celeb Secrets: We heard you’re working on an EP? What can fans expect and do you have a set date yet?

Dylan Bernard: “Yes! I am currently working on my debut EP. If everything goes according to plan, it should be out early 2017! Fans can expect a four song EP, that will tell a story. I’m so excited to get it out to everyone!”

Celeb Secrets: You’re a songwriter. Where do you get the inspiration for your songs?

Dylan Bernard: “My writing inspiration definitely comes from real life experiences. ‘Flames’ was written about a very real relationship in my life, and all of the music I’ve been working on stems from things I have gone through.”

Celeb Secrets: What do you want fans to take away from your music?

Dylan Bernard: “I want my fans to feel something from my music. I want them to know that there are artists out there that still do this because they love it, not because they want followers.”

Celeb Secrets: Anyone you would love to collaborate with?

Dylan Bernard:“Oh wow, the list is extensive! I’d love to collaborate with artists like Lorde, Alessia Cara, Jason Mraz, and Andy Grammer. It would be amazing to write a song with Sia as well!”

Celeb Secrets: Why should our readers listen to your music?

Dylan Bernard: “I think your readers should listen to my music because everyone will be able to relate to it, in their own way. We all have different experiences, but at the end of the day, I truly believe that music is universal, and can mean something different to each and every listener.”

Celeb Secrets: We are Celeb Secrets; is there a secret about yourself that your fans may not know about you?

Dylan Bernard: “When I was 15, I starred in an Emmy award-winning educational film that raised awareness for suicide prevention.”
