Music Monday: Meet JLine

Happy Monday, readers!

Meet our newest Music Monday artist of the week JLine.

JLine is an accomplished songwriter, producer and choreographer. He moved to New York City from small town beginnings to forge his own path in the music business. In the past 3 years, his music videos have been added into MTV and VH1’s rotation, while his music fills hundreds of media outlets throughout the country.

JLine has a lot of power behind him. The electro-pop singer just released his single “Over” earlier this year and has been working hard in the studio with producer Noisecastle iii (Dawn Richards, Daya) for his upcoming album.

JLine takes his music and message a step further with his #istandwithjline concert, which has been seen by over 1 million students nationwide. After performing for the captivated audience, JLine discusses how he triumphed over his own experience with bullying by focusing on his love for music.

Celeb Secrets caught up with JLine recently to talk all things music! In our interview, the singer-songwriter opened up about what he likes to do in his free time, his anti-bullying movement, and his upcoming album — he also told us some pretty interesting fun facts about himself, so make sure to read the full Q&A below!

For more information on JLine, make sure to visit his website at http://www.jlinemusic.com/.

Celeb Secrets: What do you like to do on your downtime?

JLine: “Usually if I’m not on tour, I love to do things that re inspire me. Take a dance class, see a new band perform or even walk around New York and see what catches my eye. My down time is the perfect time to fill my head with new ideas and reinvigorate my creativity.”

Celeb Secrets: What made you decide to create your anti-bullying movement?

JLine: “When I was in middle/ high school, I was the victim of bullying and and it did affect me for years after. I mostly felt very alone and isolated during that time in my life. I wanted to find a way to let kids know, who may be going through the same thing, that they will get through it and they can decide for themselves that they will never let another person define or degrade them.”

Celeb Secrets: How did you come up with your stage name?

JLine: “It’s a combination of my first and last name. So it still feels like me, like a nickname.”

Celeb Secrets: What was the inspiration behind the video and lyrics for your new single, “Over?”

JLine: “’Over’ is about two people in a relationship who just can’t get it right. They fight, they love and ultimately fall apart. It’s about different experiences and relationships I’ve had in my life.  I wanted the video to reflect that frenetic feeling, of the highs and lows of love, and I think by using 2001 a space odyssey as a reference, we were able to do that in the video.”

Celeb Secrets: What can we expect from your upcoming album?

JLine: “A more mature, experimental sound. I’m stretching the limits of pop music and blending all different types of genres- EDM, electro pop, R&B and trap. Music that defies description but still makes you wanna sing along and move your body.”

Celeb Secrets: Is there a song off your forthcoming album that you’re most excited to perform live?

JLine: “Right now I love performing my new single OVER onstage. The dance I perform with my female dance partner is raw, athletic and emotional. I can feel the audience almost holding their breathe while we perform it because the song and choreography really draws you in. We’re telling a story through our movements and I love interpreting that song with our dance performance.”

Celeb Secrets: What emoji would you say best describes your music?

JLine: “I think the smile and wink emoji. As seriously as I take my career, it’s also a lot of fun for me and I want the same for my fans. I want to put a smile on their face and put them in a better mood after listening to my music. Don’t take it too seriously. I wanna say to them “Just lay back and enjoy the album”.”

Celeb Secrets: For our readers who have yet to check you out, why should they?

JLine: “Everything I do is from my heart and I’m “indie” in the best sense. I have the freedom to make music that moves me, to experiment with sound and create amazing visuals that totally represent me as an artist. Any new fan of mine will know they are getting  a truly authentic experience from someone who gives everything they have to their art.”

Celeb Secrets: Are you currently working on any other projects?

JLine: “I will tour with my #istandwithjline antibullying concert this fall, while also working on more visuals for the album and then gearing up for its release in October. This album is my top priority and has 100% of my focus.”

Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have a secret or fun fact about yourself that you’d like to share?

JLine: “I can not sleep without a fan on or a sound machine. I found this amazing app that plays fan noise for hours on end and when I’m on tour it soothes me to sleep. I couldn’t live without it. And I’m deathly afraid of rats. Living in NYC, I see about 10 a day. I have a mini heart attack every time.”
