O2L Announce New 2014 MTV Movie Awards Socially Voted Category

Screen-Shot-2014-03-08-at-8.14.02-PMMTV, along with social correspondents for the “2014 MTV Movie Awards,” Our 2nd Life (O2L), today announced the debut of a new socially-voted category “FAVORITE CHARACTER” presented by Revlon, for the “2014 MTV Movie Awards” that will air LIVE on Sunday, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Building on the success of the first-ever social category integration that launched in 2012 with BEST HERO, MTV will once again put the power in the hands of the fans to choose a winner using the respective hashtags via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine. The “2014 MTV Movie Awards” will air LIVE on Sunday, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

Beginning today and continuing through to the live telecast, fans can vote for nominees for  “FAVORITE CHARACTER” via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Vine using associated hashtags – Katniss Everdeen (Catching Fire, #votekatniss), Beatrice Prior (Divergent, #votetris), Veronica Mars (Veronica Mars, #voteveronicamars), Loki (Thor: The Dark World, #voteloki), Khan (Star Trek Into Darkness, #votekhan). MTV and Revlon will be present the winner with the Golden Popcorn during the Awards telecast.

This marks the third year that the socially-voted category has been incorporated into the “MTV Movie Awards” with the first award going to BEST HERO in 2012.  Each year, the award continues to see significant growth with a 310% increase in social voting year-over-year.

O2L has worked alongside MTV since the start of the Movie Awards campaign and will continue up to and including having them as social correspondents for MTV on the Red Carpet.  O2L members include Connor Franta, Ricky Dillon, JC Caylen, Trevor Moran, Sam Pottorff and Kian Lawley, who are among the most popular international millennial brands today collectively commanding over 8 million subscribers and 380 million views on YouTube. 

Hosted by comedian and late night host Conan O’Brien, the “2014 MTV Movie Awards” will once again officially kick-off the summer blockbuster season, promising to deliver yet another epically funny, explosive, over-the-top show that features fan favorite films, actors and musicians. Academy Award® nominated actor and producer Mark Wahlberg will be honored with the MTV Generation Award, and fittingly be presented the award by “Entourage” cast members Adrian GrenierKevin ConnollyJerry Ferrara and Kevin Dillon. This will mark the first public reunion for the cast ahead of their highly anticipated movie release in June 2015.  In additon, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton are confirmed to present.

The telecast will also serve as the kick-off to summer music, featuring global superstars Ellie Goulding and Zedd performing selections from the “Divergent Soundtrack.” Ellie Goulding will perform “Beating Heart” live for the first time, while Zedd will perform “Find You” with Miriam Bryant and Matthew Koma. In addition, MTV is adding a music discovery slot into “MTV Movie Awards” that will feature MTV Artist to Watch Twenty One Pilots performing their current single “Car Radio.” Additional performers will be announced at a later date.
