Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording group Panic! At The Disco has made a spectacular chart debut with their acclaimed new album, “VICES & VIRTUES.” The collection – which features the hit single, “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” – entered the SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #7, while also coming in at #2 on SoundScan’s “Alternative Albums” chart and #5 on the “Digital Albums” ranking. In addition, “VICES & VIRTUES (DELUXE VERSION)” is currently standing tall in the top 10 of iTunes’ “Alternative Albums” chart having previously entered the main “Pop Albums” tally at #6. What’s more, “VICES & VIRTUES” is proving an international sensation, making a top 10 album chart debut in Australia, where “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” is currently the #1 alternative single in the country.
“VICES & VIRTUES” has also begun drawing critical praise, including a four-starred rave from Alternative Press, which declared the album “a new start for Panic! At The Disco…(melding) the youthful exuberance of their debut, 2005’s ‘A FEVER YOU CAN’T SWEAT OUT,’ with the restraint and maturity of 2008’s ‘PRETTY. ODD.’” The review concludes that P!ATD have “tightened the reins while not abandoning the dramatic, theatrical tendencies that made them stars in the first place” and “sound absolutely recharged.”
Elsewhere, Rolling Stone raved that “VICES & VIRTUES” is “the closest emo has come to the sound of old-school pop and rock.” USA Today praised the album as “engaging,” noting that it “caroms wildly from campy cabaret-style pop to cleverly eclectic rock.” People hailed Panic! At The Disco’s “knack for hook-filled punk-pop,” whileStar noted that “(the band’s) sound has only gotten bigger and better.”
Currently ascending the airplay charts at Alternative Radio outlets nationwide, “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” was a #1 smash on iTunes’ “Top Alternative Songs” chart, while its companion video peaked at #1 on iTunes’ “Top Alternative Music Videos” ranking, where it remains a top 5 favorite. “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” – directed by Shane Drake (who previously collaborated with P!ATD on the award-winning “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” video, as well as the hugely popular “Nine In The Afternoon” clip) – has also scored heavy rotation at MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, Fuse, and Logo’s NewNowNext PopLab. In addition, the clip has received nearly 5 million views at Fueled By Ramen’s official YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/fueledbyramen).
P!ATD will celebrate the album’s success with an eagerly anticipated North American headline tour. The dates begin May 22nd at Boston’s House of Blues and then traverse the continent through late June (see attached itinerary).
