Hollywood Records quintet R5 readies the release of their new single, the upbeat rock-pop gem “Pass Me By,” set for a Radio Disney premiere on August 16 and available at iTunes beginning August 20. The band also just finished shooting the music video for the track (produced by Emanuel “Eman” Kiriakou and Andrew Goldstein) on location in Malibu, CA., with director Ryan Pallotta (Ne-Yo, Robin Thicke, Jason Derulo).
Describing the story behind the song, Riker Lynch says, ““Pass Me By” is about being really into a girl who sort of already has a guy in her life so you can’t tell how you feel. Then one day her guy leaves and you finally have your chance. You think to yourself, ‘Damn, you could be the one and I can’t let you pass me by.’ So you better go for it.
R5 is becoming one of the country’s fastest-rising pop bands and the volume is about to crank up higher with the band’s debut full-length album, LOUDER, set for release on September 24. LOUDER follows the release earlier this year of R5’s EP, LOUD, and an extensive sold-out U.S. spring tour followed by sold-out shows in London and Paris.
Later this fall, the band embarks on a string of U.S. tour dates. “We’re really looking forward to playing the new songs from the album live. In 2014 we really want to go on a world tour and play our music for everyone,” says Ross. Speaking about the new album, Riker added, “We want everyone to know we are a full-on rock band, that we’re really proud of this record and had an amazing time making it.”
Nominated for Best Acoustic Performance and Best Music Group at the 2013 Radio Disney Music Awards, R5 is rapidly emerging as the band to watch this year. Originally from Littleton, Colo., the L.A.-based band is comprised of siblings Riker (bass/vocals), Ross (guitar/vocals), Rocky (guitar/vocals) and Rydel Lynch (keyboard/vocals); along with best friend Ellington “Ratliff” (drums/vocals). Last year, R5 honed its performing chops, headlining sold-out shows across the country. Ross and Riker Lynch have already made names for themselves, starring in Disney Channel Original Series “Austin & Ally” and “Glee” respectively.
Ross also starred in the hit 2013 Disney Channel Original Movie “Teen Beach Movie,” the soundtrack album of which hit the Top 3 on the Billboard 200, becoming the first non-sequel TV movie soundtrack to debut Top 10 on the chart since 2008’s Camp Rock soundtrack. To date, R5 has amassed 4 million YouTube views, over 500,000 Facebook likes, a million Instagram followers and more than 1.5 million combined Twitter followers worldwide, all before the release of their album debut.
