The 36-year-old Scandal star is a planner with a type-A personality, even timing her pregnancy, but the unpredictability has taught her to live moment by moment.
“For me, having a baby was never going to be timed randomly. I wanted to have mine while I was on Scandal. Kerry Washington is one of my best friends, and I’ve gotten to watch her go through motherhood. I also have the greatest female boss in Shonda Rhimes, who is a mother of three and a huge advocate for women. I knew if I was fortunate enough to get pregnant while working on the show, I would feel nothing but support.”
Although, Lowes has a loving support system and the experience for caring for a newborn – she nannied for years- she explains to “Fit Pregnancy and Baby” she has fears like any expecting mother would have.
“I feel so honored to be a mom and get to do something that women have done for thousands of years. But I also wake up in the middle of the night sometimes, totally freaked out. I’m super-scared about labor and my whole life changing, because I like my life as it is. It’s beautifully complicated.”
Katie, like any other mother, is still trying to figure everything out. She explains to “Fit Pregnancy and Baby” that she’s aware she’s having a son, but has no idea what his identity or sexual orientation will be.
She is seen as a source of inspiration to expecting mothers, who worry not only about the unpredictability of pregnancy, but the healthy future of their child.
