Sophie Ann Dishes on Her Empowering New Song “Flawless” (Exclusive)

Every so often, experts recommend that you punch up your playlist with a bold new butt-kicking power anthem. You get extra points if that track comes with a strong girl power message. Okay, so maybe by “experts,” I confess I’m actually quoting myself here. I may not be a fancy music scientist, but I know the healing qualities a great song can possess, and singer Sophie Ann is here to deliver a refreshing bop that will change up your mood and help get you out of any slump. Her latest is called “Flawless,” and it’s a self-love synth pop track with a major disco influence that aims to bring out your most confident self.

To celebrate such a “Flawless” new release, Celeb Secrets caught up with the artist to hear all the latest on the infectiously catchy song, her career so far, and her personal journey to reach her goals. Check out our exclusive Q & A with Sophie below.

Feeling “Flawless” is feeling like nothing is holding you back.

Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us the story behind “Flawless,” and how it turned into a song?

Sophie Ann: The day I wrote “Flawless,” I knew I wanted to write something fun with a disco vibe. I had also been going through a big transition in my life and wanted to write something that made me feel empowered and able to take on the world as an independent woman.

Celeb Secrets: What is a message you hope listeners take away from this song?

Sophie Ann: I hope listeners will take away that they can find all the strength they need within themselves. To me, feeling “Flawless” is feeling like nothing is holding you back.

Celeb Secrets: How would you describe your musical journey, and your career up until this point?

Sophie Ann: Spastic! I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was trying everything. Gigging, releasing music, session singing, demo singing, you name it, but I never wanted to put my all into one thing. Fear was holding me back for a long time. Once I started accepting opportunities that were coming my way, my path became really clear and I knew I wanted to be my own artist.

Celeb Secrets: What was the best advice you got along that journey?

Sophie Ann: Say yes. Don’t say no because the opportunity isn’t EXACTLY what you had in mind. You will learn something from everything you try. It’s a trial and error. By saying yes, you get to find out what you like and don’t like very quickly.

Celeb Secrets: Do you remember a song that was really influential to you when you were growing up?

Sophie Ann: “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by The Beatles. It was one of the first songs that inspired me to look up the lyrics and find out the meaning behind it. Moments like that were the start of my passion for songwriting.

Celeb Secrets: Who are some of your dream collaborators you’d love to work with?

Sophie Ann: There are so many. Janelle Monae, Allen Stone, Adele, Portugal The Man, Dua Lipa, Julia Michaels, I’m sure I’m forgetting a million others.

Celeb Secrets: Are there any other artists whose journeys inspire you, or who you look up to?

Sophie Ann: Elliott Smith is my idol. His songwriting blows my mind and touches my soul. He got me through middle school and high school and made me feel like I wasn’t alone. I hope to do that for someone one day.

Celeb Secrets: For Celeb Secrets, would you be able to share a fun secret about yourself that not a lot of people know?

Sophie Ann: I’m obsessed with musical theater. I grew up doing theater and initially went to college for acting. If you name any musical I’d probably be able to sing you at least one song from it. It’s a problem.
