Violett Beane Credits Inclusivity for God Friended Me’s Wild Success (Exclusive)

When a TV show has a consistent viewership of 7+ million per episode, there has to be something that’s keeping the viewers hungry for more. After speaking with Violett Beane — the 22-year-old starring alongside in the new CBS dramedy God Friended Me, we instantly knew exactly what it was.

“One of my favorite things about the show is the inclusivity of it,” Beane told Celeb Secrets when asked about what’s resonating with fans most. “All of the lead characters and the people who come in that are the ‘friends of the week’ as we like to call them all come from different backgrounds, so everyone has a different story to tell and bring different information to the story and what we’re trying to accomplish. I think that’s what is drawing people to it.”

For those of you who don’t know, God Friended Me follows Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall), an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from God and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him. After repeated pokes by God, Miles’ curiosity takes over, and he accepts the ultimate friend request and follows the signs to Cara Bloom (Beane), an online journalist.

Brought together by the mysterious account, the two find themselves investigating God’s friend suggestions and inadvertently helping others in need. Miles is set on getting to the bottom of what he believes is an elaborate hoax, but in the meantime, he’ll play along and — in the process — change his life forever.
