A world filled with unknown mysteries and strange occurrences is coming to your TV with BritBox’s new series, Passenger.
The gripping British series, which premiered October 17, invites viewers to explore Chadder Vale, a fictional Northern town where residents grapple with a series of strange occurrences and crimes.
The show follows Former Met Police Detective Riya Ajunwa (played by Wunmi Mosaku) as she investigates a series of strange and inexplicable crimes that have the townsfolk spinning on an axis, including the unsettling disappearance of a local girl.
While the tight-knit community knows something is happening within the town, they are reluctant to face the truth or their fears and the arising changes. Desperate to uncover what is happening, Riya takes matters into her own hands.
“She’s kind of a big fish in a small pond,” Mosaku shared with Celeb Secrets. “She’s a little bit lost but it’s really because she can’t face her own fears of life. She’s become a little obsessed with the town and trying to uncover what she feels is underneath.”
But Riya isn’t the only one who finds themselves dealing with conflict. Co-star Barry Sloane, who plays Eddie Wells, also shared insight about his character’s struggles.
On Top of being labeled as a “monster” in Chadder Vale, he also grapples with the disappearance of his daughter on the very day he’s released from jail.
Sloan said that the northern backdrop of Passenger also resonates with viewers, where they might find themselves in some of the characters and their stories.
“Everyone is struggling to be who they are supposed to be, they are dealing with something going on not just inside of them but around them,” he said. “Ordinary people are dealing with extraordinary events. It’s very truthful and it’s very real.”

However, it’s not just the mysteries and secrets that will surprise people when they watch Passenger.
Mosaku hinted that the dialogue in the show is “zingy, funny, rich, natural and heightened.” The comedy and dynamic between the characters are other aspects that will draw audiences to the series.
Passenger is written by debut screenwriter Andrew Buchan, who is best known for his acting roles on Broadchurch and The Honourable.
