Viola Davis Becomes the First Black Woman to Win 5 Awards (2017)

Who doesn’t love a major accomplishment that pushes societal barriers? After watching Viola Davis reap rewards for her phenomenal work in Fences, we certainly felt like we were watching history unfold on our very own TV screens. Jan. 27, 2017 marks the date when Davis became the very first Black woman to win five statuettes. Her humble speech about honoring the stories of Black people who had to work through trite just to lead average lives left us wondering if a piece of dust accidentally flew into our eyes. So iconic!
