Presley & Taylor Talk Claiming Their Place in Country With Autobiographical New Single “The Kind of Girl” (Exclusive)

Country music has a new anthem for the millions of fans who didn’t grow up south of the Mason-Dixon line — and it comes straight from Connecticut-bred sister duo Presley & Taylor. Their brand-new single, “The Kind of Girl” (out now), is more than just a song — it’s a declaration of identity, authenticity, and their rightful place in Nashville.

“This song just is us,” Presley & Taylor tell Celeb Secrets exclusively. “It’s autobiographical, a little cheeky, and completely true to our story. It says, ‘Here’s who we are, where we come from, and why we belong in country music.’ After years of writing, touring, and figuring out our sound, this felt like the perfect way to open a brand-new chapter. We hope it reaches all the girls who can relate.”

The track, produced by Andrew Baylis (Jelly Roll, Koe Wetzel, Bailey Zimmerman), beautifully blends the sisters’ New England upbringing with their Music City home base. Instead of pretending to be something they’re not, the pair leaned into their story.

“We didn’t shy away from who we are,” they explain. “We grew up in Connecticut, so instead of trying to sound like someone else’s version of a ‘country girl,’ we wrote from our perspective — wine-sippin’, small-town living, ocean breezes, and backroads. Sonically, Andrew Baylis helped us marry those personal details with a modern country-pop production that still has that warmth and drive you hear on the radio.”

That balance also answers the question Presley & Taylor get all the time: “How did you end up in country music growing up in Connecticut?” Their answer is simple.

“Country music isn’t just where you’re from, it’s how you feel and what you love writing about,” they share. “We grew up obsessed with storytelling, harmony, and the emotions country music captures so well. We may not have been raised in the South, but we definitely grew up listening to it and going to country concerts every summer. We also spent most of our teen years driving back and forth from Nashville to Connecticut with our parents every chance we’d get! So naturally, Nashville had a major impact on who we are today.”

In a genre where lyrics often reference blonde-haired, blue-eyed Southern belles, Presley & Taylor are carving out space for their own kind of country girl.

“Absolutely,” they say. “If we don’t tell our own stories, who will? We wanted to show that ‘country’ isn’t one look, accent, or hometown. There’s room for every kind of girl in this genre, and the more perspectives there are, the richer the music becomes.”

Working with Baylis only amplified that vision. “Andrew brought a fresh energy that pushed us to be bold,” they gush. “He has this way of making a track feel both polished and raw at the same time — like you’re hearing the heart of the song, but it’s wrapped in this big, cinematic sound. He really dialed in on our harmonies and made them feel front and center, which is so key to who we are. We can’t wait for everyone to hear the project as a whole. We have so many songs in our back pockets and up our sleeves!”

Now in their 20s, Presley & Taylor say they’ve grown leaps and bounds from their Limited Edition era. “We’re a lot more confident now,” they reveal. “When we started, we were figuring out who we wanted to be and sometimes chasing what we thought people wanted from us. Now, we trust our instincts more. We’re not afraid to write exactly what we feel, even if it’s not the ‘typical’ country song.”

While their last album felt like “a mix of everything,” the new one is laser-focused. “This project is more personal, intentional, and every song feels like it belongs in the same world,” they note. “The common thread is authenticity — stories we’ve lived, people we’ve loved (and lost), and moments that shaped us.”

One of their biggest “pinch-me” moments so far? Hearing “The Kind of Girl” fully produced for the first time. “We had been living with it as just a guitar-and-vocal demo, and when Andrew played us the final mix, we looked at each other and knew this was the song to lead the way.”

At the heart of Presley & Taylor’s artistry is their unshakable sisterly bond. “It’s our secret weapon,” they say with a laugh. “We can finish each other’s sentences — in real life and in lyrics. On stage, we have this unspoken connection that makes performing feel effortless. We can tell if the other one needs a breath, a laugh, or a little extra push during a show.”

Of course, being sisters comes with its challenges too. “The best thing is always having someone in your corner who knows you better than anyone,” they explain. “The hardest part is… we’re sisters. We know exactly how to push each other’s buttons. But at the end of the day, we wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

And while creative disagreements are inevitable, they’ve developed their own rule. “If one of us isn’t feeling it, we keep working until we both do. Our rule is: the best idea wins, no matter who came up with it.”

With years of touring under their belts (and plenty of wild road stories — like the time their GPS led them down a tractor path through the woods), Presley & Taylor are ready to take their career to new heights in 2025.

“We want to get this new music to as many ears as possible, play more shows than ever, and keep building the connection with our fans,” they say. “Personally, we also want to be more present in the moment instead of always thinking about the next thing.”

For now, “The Kind of Girl” is just the beginning of what promises to be a standout new chapter. As Presley puts it: “We’ve been singing country music since we were in our teens and in Nashville for seven years now, but this project feels different, like we’ve found our footing. So kicking off this new season with something so personal seems like the right choice.”

And if you’re wondering what secrets these sisters are hiding, don’t worry — they gave us a few: they’re obsessed with old-school rom-coms, Taylor makes the best homemade lattes, and Presley has an embarrassingly large collection of vintage band tees.
