Bon Jovi‘s highly anticipated return to Madison Square Garden hit an unexpected pause on Thursday night (July 23) after frontman Jon Bon Jovi ended the band’s eighth sold-out show early due to a sinus infection.
After performing for roughly 90 minutes, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer addressed the crowd directly, explaining that he needed to call it a night before promising fans they would get another chance to experience the full show.
“Don’t throw away your ticket stubs,” Bon Jovi told the audience. “I’m going to figure something out… Just hang onto it. I’m going to figure out how to reschedule.”
He added, “I’m gonna have to cool it for a night. I feel great. I’ll see you again soon.”

Celeb Secrets was inside Madison Square Garden for the performance, where there were few signs anything was amiss during the opening portion of the set. The New Jersey rock icons delivered fan favorites including “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Born to Be My Baby,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “It’s My Life” and “Bad Medicine,” while Train frontman Pat Monahan made a surprise appearance to perform the band’s signature anthem, “Livin’ On a Prayer.”
Up until that moment, the atmosphere had been electric, with fans fully embracing the band’s long-awaited return to one of New York City’s most iconic stages. While disappointment was unavoidable, the overwhelming feeling throughout the arena was one of understanding as the audience applauded Bon Jovi offstage, recognizing the decision to prioritize his health.
Following the show, a representative for Bon Jovi confirmed that the early ending was the result of the singer battling a sinus infection.
“Jon Bon Jovi spoke from stage and told fans he has been battling a sinus infection which led to the show’s early ending,” the representative said in a statement to People. “As part of the Bon Jovi residency at Madison Square Garden, Jon has said numerous times that it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band. Updated information will be available shortly.”

The shortened performance comes during Bon Jovi’s Forever Tour, which marks the band’s first major tour since Jon Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord medialization surgery and spent the past several years recovering before returning to the stage.
“I’d often joked and said the only thing that’s ever been up my nose was my finger,” he also told People for his recent cover story in June. “I never did anything to hurt the cords; I didn’t have any excesses. I’m a trained vocalist. I’ve practiced the craft.”
Ahead of the tour, the singer shared that he had fully recovered following the procedure, calling this chapter “a rebirth” after uncertainty surrounding whether he would be able to perform full concerts again.

Despite Thursday’s unexpected ending, the band’s Madison Square Garden residency is still scheduled to conclude with its ninth and final show on Sunday (July 26) before Bon Jovi heads overseas for a series of stadium performances across Scotland, Ireland and England.
