Cali Rodi is back with a new song and we can’t get enough of it!
The LA-based singer/songwriter just dropped “blink-182 + u,” an alt-pop anthem that shows her emotional side to her fans, something that she’s never done before. Diving deep into a breakup, “blink-182 + u” was produced Aaron Z (Bryce Vine, Lil Wayne) and Emily Wright (Katy Perry, Kesha) and toys with the nostalgia of growing up, being carefree and young romance.
“I tapped into a new level of unfiltered honesty when I was writing the lyrics — it was like everything I ever wanted to say was just spilling onto my laptop. I was channeling all these bottled up feelings, as well as the nostalgia of growing up and being carefree in the basement blasting blink-182 songs with my friends,” she tells Celeb Secrets.
“From banana suits to birthday suits, blink-182 brought humor, angst, and the “wasted youth” mentality to mainstream music. They never took themselves too seriously, and I love when there’s a comedic element in songs, so I definitely carry that inspiration with me into songwriting sessions for my upcoming EP.”
Originally discovered in Nashville by superstar Keith Urban, Cali spent her formative years fine tuning her lyrical chops with the best of Music Row. In 2017, she released her first single, “Party Favor,” which was in heavy rotation on Radio Disney for an impressive four months and featured on top Spotify and Apple Music playlists — no small feat for an independent artist’s debut. After 3 years of continued writing, recording, and self discovery, Cali came out swinging with “God Save The Queen,” a female empowerment anthem. This release, a mere 2 months ago, has been met with renewed enthusiasm and playlist love, with over 100k streams in the first month.
