Caroline Kole Spills 5 Secrets From Making New EP “Only Slightly Emotional”

The time has come for the world to hear Caroline Kole and boy are they in for a treat.

The 21-year-old pop songstress just dropped her new EP Only Slightly Emotional this month, showing emotional growth on Kole’s part, featuring slight sarcasm and a level of honesty that most artists her age don’t tackle.

The EP includes previously released singles “What If,” “Strawberry Lip Smacker” and “Flow,” as well as new single “Always Almost.” “Always Almost” has already been added to Apple Music’s Best of the Week and Hot Tracks playlists.

Celeb Secrets sat down with Kole to chat about the EP, revealing five secrets behind making the record that we wouldn’t know when listening to it.

You can keep up with Caroline by following her on Instagram at @carolinekole and let us know what you think of her music by leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post.

  • I thought about an EP title for probably two weeks! I tried lines from songs, I tried favorite snack foods (yea, I really considered it)…but then I decided a slightly sarcastic and slightly honest approach to it might be nice! And so, “Only Slightly Emotional” was born!

  • “Always Almost,” one of the tracks on the EP, is a true story! But also, all the songs I write come from a place of honesty and real situations in my life. This song is the product of my frustration with a relationship, and suddenly all these questions started eating me alive – when to know when you can truly say you’ve tried your best, when to know it’s worth it to invest in something and when to know it’s time to walk away. For all those reasons, this felt like a risky song to write… and then I decided to make it the lead single off of the EP. Face your fears, right?

  • I cut some of the vocals for “Always Almost” in the middle of terrible allergies, so I was so stuffy. Between takes, I’d be blowing my nose, drinking so much water, so much tea, and then taking a shot of apple cider vinegar with cayenne pepper before we went again!

  • When I cut the vocals for “Flow,” I had a really bad stomach ache from chugging a vanilla milkshake way too fast. I sang with my foot stepping up on a chair so I could kind of lean over and not feel super sick while singing… I don’t think the producer really caught on though, ha! He was like, “Let’s do a few more takes…” and I was like “Yup! Don’t regret my decision to have a milkshake before I came here AT ALL!”

  • “Me & U” was written after I listened to Prince for a week straight – especially “Kiss” over and over again. Can you tell?!
