Top Billboard 200 Album: Adele, 25, Justin Bieber, Purpose, Ed Sheeran, x, Taylor Swift, 1989, The Weeknd, Beauty Behind the Madness
Who We Think Will Win:Â Although I feel like Adele and Ed Sheeran’s albums were pure gold, and they have voice of angels, it is going to be a close call between Adele and Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift has had more singles off the album and her songs continue to play on the radio. I’m going to give this one to Taylor Swift, because she not only transitioned her music genre, but rocked it too.
Top Soundtrack: Empire: Original Soundtrack From Season 1, Fifty Shades of Grey, Furious 7, Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1, Pitch Perfect 2
Who We Think Will Win: I’m a little bias when it comes to this category because I have a love for old hits or indie music. Guardians of the Galaxy is my choice because the music was a part of the movie, it had a significant part. All the songs were hits and perfectly tied in with the storyline. As much as I love Beyoncé’s version of “Crazy in Love” in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, they don’t deserve the award. But it’ll be close call between Guardians and Fifty Shades of Grey. I’m throwing in the towel if Pitch Perfect 2 wins, I’m sorry, but how is that even fair?
Top R&B Album: Chris Brown, Royalty, Rihanna, Anti, Bryson Tiller, T R A P S O U L, Tyrese, Black Rose, The Weeknd, Beauty Behind the Madness
Who We Think Will Win:Â This one is a tough one for me because I’m in a battle between Rihanna and The Weeknd. They both had great albums, they both are creatively brilliant, and both have high charting singles. I’m going to give this one to Rihanna because not only is “Work” my jam, but “Love on the Brain” is insanely beautiful. Rihanna has me from moving my hips to crying in tears. Her music is so diverse, while I love The Weeknd’s songs they all sort of sound the same.
Top Rap Album: Drake, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, Drake and Future, What a Time to Be Alive, Dr. Dre, Compton, Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly, Meek Mill, Dreams Worth More Than Money
Who We Think Will Win:Â I’m a sucker for Drake, don’t get me wrong, but Kendrick Lamar is going to take this award. He is album was brilliant and lyrically the best album out of the bunch. The album’s lyrics explore a variety of political and personal themes concerning African-American culture, racial inequality, depression, institutional discrimination and materialism. Not only are his songs catchy, but have strong messages to them too. I’ll be extremely surprised if he doesn’t win.
Top Country Album: Chris Stapleton, Traveller, Luke Bryan, Kill the Lights, Sam Hunt, Montevallo, Zac Brown Band, Jekyll + Hyde, Carrie Underwood, Storyteller
Who We Think Will Win: Let’s all say who’s going to win together, Chris Stapleton. He has been winning all the country awards left and right when it’s coming to best country album. He won a Grammy this year! There is no way he isn’t taking this award home. Traveller received critical acclaim upon its release from several sites, the charts, and at award shows. His lyrics are about dealing with the grit of life and turing it into a hell of a journey. Start cleaning your shelf Chris because there is another award coming your way.
Top Rock Album: Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color, David Bowie, Blackstar, Coldplay, A Head Full of Dreams, Mumford & Sons, Wilder Mind, twenty one pilots, Blurryface
Who We Think Will Win:Â Personally I don’t consider a lot of these albums in the rock category, but if anyone is going to take this award the Alabama Shakes truly deserve it. As much as I want twenty one pilots to take home their first award, because they aren’t only passionate, hardworking, but their songs have messages about depression, being helped by a friend, falling in love. Alabama Shakes won a ton of well deserved awards at the Grammy’s and I don’t see it any different here. The group listened to anything and everything for influence, without regard for its public reception in the end. It took them over a year to finish this album because thy didn’t have any direction, but life itself when it came to writing this album.
Top Dance/Electronic Album: David Guetta, Listen, Major Lazer, Peace Is the Mission, ODESZA, In Return , Skrillex and Diplo, Skrillex And Diplo Present Jack , Zedd, True Colors
Who We Think Will Win: Skrillex and Diplo, or should I call him Diploncé because he produced some of Beyoncé’s new hits for Lemonade, are fan favorites. They’ve won a Grammy for this album, worked with huge stars, and their music is frankly the most danceable. I don’t know much about EDM, but I know their album has some great sounds in there, but most importantly my favorite, some great drops. And we all know the song, “Where are you now”. This album was creative, fun, and different. I’m not the hugest EDM fan, but I am a huge fan of this album!
