Last month, Chlo Subia took over Celeb Secrets to attend the 2017 American Humane Hero Dog Awards and we’re not only giving you a recap of her fabulous night, but also a tease of what to expect from tonight’s telecast!
Held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on September 16th, the event honored America’s most courageous canines. Television and film star James Denton and model and animal advocate Beth Stern hosted the evening and were accompanied by a galaxy of celebrity stars and presenters including Josie Bissett, Lacey Chabert, Danielle Fishel, Vivica Fox, Daisy Fuentes, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bailee Madison, Kellie Martin, Debbie Matenopolous, Cameron Mathison, Danica McKellar, Brandon McMillan, Barbara Niven, Alexa and Carolos Penavega, Mark Steines, Alison Sweeney, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Alicia Witte and more.
Prior to the event, Chlo hit the red carpet to mingle with the celebrity guests, the canine honorees, and their owners.
“I’ve worked with Hallmark Channel for awhile now, and since they are airing the special, they invited me to present the musical performance tonight. I’m a huge Richard Marx fan and I’m so excited to introduce him. It’s like my dream come true,” actress Danica McKellar told Chlo about her involvement with the event. “I also love the Hero Dog Awards because they do so much to raise awareness for animals. It’s a beautiful program and I’m so happy to be out here and support it.”

Did you know that The Hero Dog Awards were created to celebrate the powerful relationship between dogs and people and recognize extraordinary acts of heroism performed by ordinary dogs?
“We created this show because there was no awards show for man’s best friend. We thought of all the dogs who have worked along side us and wanted to recognize their contributions. These are uplifting dogs that we are working with tonight — our favorite guide dogs, hearing dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs, law enforcement and military dogs. These dogs make us better as a country and as humans, and we are so lucky to have them in our lives,” Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane, shared with Subia.
“It’s my favorite weekend of the entire year. I get to see dogs that I love — this year’s hero dogs as well as dogs from the past that came back to celebrate tonight.”Â
– Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane
After the red carpet, Chlo went inside the ceremony and was treated to the artistry of The Alex Donner Band and a special appearance by Hallmark Channel’s Goodwill Ambassador Happy the Dog. Following that, guests laughed at some pre-recorded skits from Jay Leno and Billy Crystal, all while learning about some of the bravest dogs (and honorees) in America.
You can catch the 7th Annual American Humane Hero Dog Awards tonight, October 26th @ 8/7c on the Hallmark Channel.
