Directors Jennifer Tiexiera and Gabriela Cavanagh Talk Showing Us the Girl Behind the Global Superstar in Becky G’s “Rebbeca” (Exclusive)

From topping charts around the world to lighting up red carpets and arenas, Becky G has spent over a decade proving she’s a force in music, fashion, and culture. But behind the hits, behind the glam, and behind the “Becky G” we all think we know, there’s Rebbeca Gomez — the daughter of immigrants from Inglewood whose journey has been anything but easy. And now, for the first time ever, fans get to meet her.

Live Nation Studios’ new documentary REBBECA is an unfiltered, emotional, and deeply personal look at Becky’s life offstage. Premiering at Tribeca Film Festival earlier this summer, the feature peels back the layers of stardom to reveal the family, culture, struggles, and triumphs that shaped one of Latin music’s brightest stars.

It’s not just a music doc — it’s a love letter to identity, resilience, and the American Dream, told by the people who know Becky best: her family, her friends, and Becky herself.

Directors Jennifer Tiexiera and Gabriela Cavanagh were immediately struck by Becky’s perspective on identity. “She was able to articulate the feelings and experiences that come with being 1st or 2nd generation immigrants, of being caught between two cultures,” Cavanagh tells Celeb Secrets. “We knew that millions of other people like us would connect with her words.”

For Tiexiera, it was Becky’s wisdom that sealed it. “I was listening to a Jay Shetty podcast and heard this young girl talking about generational trauma… and it was Becky. I couldn’t believe how grounded and brilliant she was. She had so much to offer — not only to younger generations, but to the world.”

The documentary doesn’t shy away from tough moments, but it also celebrates Becky’s joy, creativity, and strength. “Becky G and Rebbeca aren’t really opposing identities — they exist at the same time,” Cavanagh explains. “Our goal was to give audiences context so you are able to see both at once.”

That honesty came from building trust. “This film was a partnership,” Tiexiera says. “Becky had so much insight, but she was also clear about which parts of the story belonged to her family. Ultimately, they decided that sharing their truth could help others — and that’s what makes this film so powerful.”

What makes REBBECA feel so personal is the way it weaves archival family footage — birthdays with mariachi bands, backyard barbecues, intimate speeches — into present-day tour moments. “Becky’s story isn’t just about one person — it’s about a family, a lineage, a community,” says Cavanagh.

Tiexiera adds, “Anyone who grows up in a Latino family knows the importance of generations. Becky was raised by her village — and they’re just as present in her life and music today.”

Fans will be thrilled to see Becky in the studio, creating with the same intention she brings to the stage. “Becky is incredibly hands-on — not just with the music itself, but with the visuals, the storytelling, the collaborations,” Cavanagh notes. “Her creative process isn’t just about making something that sounds beautiful — it’s about processing, honoring, and sharing parts of herself.”

“She’s just a powerhouse,” Tiexiera adds. “She works so hard, absorbs everything around her, and always goes back to her roots. Family is always first, and you feel that in her music.”

At its core, REBBECA is about resilience and representation. “This is more than just a portrait of an artist — it’s a visual love letter to an immigrant community that is actively being targeted,” says Cavanagh. “In a time of attempted erasure, we hope the film helps our community feel seen.”

For Tiexiera, the message is urgent: “At first, I would’ve said the story shows what’s possible. Now, I’d say it shows what’s at stake. Stand proud and loud in that space — because your voice matters.”

More than anything, REBBECA reminds us that Becky is still a work in progress — just like the rest of us. “I hope younger viewers take away that we should all be striving to become better versions of ourselves,” says Cavanagh. “Becky was open to sharing her story as a human being in progress, and that honesty is what makes her so inspiring.”

From the tears to the triumphs, this is Becky G like you’ve never seen her before. Whether you’ve been stanning since the early days or just pressed play on your first Becky playlist, REBBECA is proof that her story — and her music — are bigger than the stage.
