An out-of-this-world adventure awaits this summer, and it’s all happening within Disney’s new flick The Slumber Party.
Premiering later tonight on Disney Channel (July 27), The Slumber Party depicts the hilarious aftermath of a sleepover birthday party hypnotism gone wrong as best friends Megan (Darby Camp), Paige (Emmy Liu-Wang) and soon-to-be step-sister Veronica (Alex Cooper Cohen) wake up with absolutely no memory of the night before. With the help of Paige’s older brother Mikey (Dallas Liu), they embark on a wild adventure together that’s really one for the books.
Throughout the film, the group of BFFs must retrace their steps to find missing birthday girl Anna Maria (Valentina Herrera), explain why there’s a flock of baby ducks in the bathtub, what happened to Megan’s eyebrow, and why she’s wearing unattainable hottie Jake Ramirez’s (Ramon Rodrigues) signature black hoodie.
Dubbed as The Hangover for kids, the comedic film hilariously captures a wild adventure the friends experience together. When Celeb Secrets asked the cast what they were most excited for viewers to see, Emmy emphasized on all of the unexpectedness The Slumber Party takes you on.
“This movie is full of unexpected turns,” she says while smiling.
“We break into our future high school to find Anna Maria — we have an onion eating competition by the way — and we ride down a whole neighborhood on a giant hedgehog float. So that’s already a bunch of unexpected adventures if you ask me!”
What makes this film special, however, is the dynamic between the characters and how those on-screen friendships translate into real life when the cameras stop rolling.
Alex Cooper Cohen told CS just how different those relationships were while filming when it came to playing her character Veronica.
“My experiences on camera and off camera were really different,” Alex reveals. “On screen, it was very different because not everybody loves Veronica, her insane amount of energy, confidence and how she doesn’t care what other people think. I think the [relationships] were very different on screen and off screen because I grew very close with my cast mates when we weren’t filming.”
“My experience is quite similar,” Dallas Liu adds, touching on his experience playing an older brother. “I got to have a lot of fun with my character, whether it was making decisions on each scene or what Mikey did.”
Besides the comedy, friendships, and parties, The Slumber Party cast also touched on the film’s heartfelt moments as Ramon and Emmy expressed their hopes on viewers finding their own connection to the characters.
“I hope the audiences can find a relation towards some of the characters and realize that there’s other people like them in the world.” Ramon expresses.
Emmy agrees by adding how she hopes both adults and kids can also see themselves within their characters. “We have such diverse personalities and each character gets to grow up and find themselves in their own way during the movie and I hope that inspires somebody out there.”
