Evangelía Pays Homage to Her Greek Roots on Latest Single “Fotiá” (Listen)

Evangelía is paying tribute to her Greek roots with her latest single “Fotiá” and we’re absolutely loving it.

The budding singer/songwriter premiered the pop song back in October, which is all about passion and listening to your heart, whether it’s the tension and release of falling in love or taking a leap of faith. Inspired by her personal experience to pursue music professionally, “Fotía” — which is Greek for “fire” — features traditional Greek sounds, driving tribal, mystical drums and modern pop melodies with sensual vocals about giving in to temptation and losing all control.

Earlier this month, the LA based, Greek American songstress dropped a live performance of the song, which was filmed at the famed Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles. Showcasing Evangelía and her co-writer/co-producer Stolar (Aloe Blacc, Selena Gomez) on bouzouki and a pair of dancers, the a stripped-down take of the euphoric dance-pop song about passion and listening to your heart was inspired from the sunset scene from the song’s music video that premiered back in October. “The live performance video has a similar vibe,” she says, “down to the styling and the colors in the background. It was all intentional.”

Hopping on a Zoom call with Celeb Secrets right before the holidays, Evangelía opened up about bringing the performance to life, saying it was “definitely a process” getting it together and making sure that everyone was COVID safe.

“We were all required to get tested before we could even enter into the venue, so everybody had to get a same-day test and there was also a very limited number of people that were allowed to be in the venue at a time,” she tells us. “It meant that for my performance, we had to keep it minimal. Stolar was playing the bouzouki and running tracks and I was able to have two dancers with me. I am so proud with how it came out, even in its stripped down version. I think it’s something really special. Someday I look forward to having a full band and 10 dancers up on stage with me.”

Evangelía grew up both in New Jersey and Greece, where she spent nearly every summer of her life on her grandmother’s farm on the Greek island of Crete and became enamored with Greek folk music. While working full-time as a Special Education teacher, Evangelía was spending her nights in various New York City recording studios and building a reputation as one of the most exciting newcomers on the music scene. When she was laid off from her teaching job, she took a leap of faith to pursue her lifelong dream of being an artist. Now based in Los Angeles and signed to Sony Music International, Evangelía has arrived to brighten the pop landscape with a boldly original sound built on her endlessly magnetic presence, and confirmed to Celeb Secrets that more music is on the way in 2021.
