The Men & Women’s Ski Halfpipe Finals took place on Park City Mountain at Sprint’s Park City US Grand Prix on Saturday afternoon (February 28) in Park City, UT.
For the men, all eyes were on Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy. The 23-year-old freeskier set the bar high for all competitors with a left double cork 12 safety, right 10 tail, switch double 10 Japan, alley-oop double flat 9 Japan and a cork 10 tail for his first run, scoring a 92.20. For his second run, the triple threat set the bar even higher by stomping a total of four doubles in just one single run, scoring a 95.6.
Kenworthy was joined on the podium by Kevin Rolland and David Wise, who finished second and third, respectively. Rolland snagged the second place spot by landing an absolutely insane double cork 1260 in his run. Mr. David Wise was consistent each run, earning him the third place spot on the podium.
For the women, X Games silver medalist Ayana Onozuka made her first career win here at the Park City Grand Prix. The 26-year-old freeskier earned that first place title with back-to-back 540s, a 720, a switch 7, a 360 and a switch 5. Sabrina Cakmakli and Janina Kuzma joined Ayana on the podium for second and third, respectively.
