Cannes Film Festival, known to be the most glamorous film festival of the year, is officially underway, and all of our favorite celebrities, influencers, actors and fashion icons are flocking to the South of France in their best outfits to check out some of this year’s most anticipated films.
Japanese-American entrepreneur, beauty educator, and influencer Lisa Opie was one of the select few to score an invite to the highly-coveted event, and she opened up to Celeb Secrets about what it was like planning our stunning look, walking the red carpet for the Monster premiere and even rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
“I prepared months in advance for this, working closely with my incredible stylist, Joey Rolon. We wanted to create the perfect look that would make a statement on the red carpet. We had numerous fittings with top designers, exploring different options until we found the perfect ensemble. Eventually, we fell in love with a stunning creation by the talented Miami-based designer, Juan Carlos Piñera,” she revealed.
“There were quite a few familiar faces at the [Cannes Film Festival], but one celebrity that truly took me by surprise was Gemma Chan. I’m a huge fan of her work, especially in ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ so it was such a thrill to see her on the red carpet alongside me,” she added.
For those who don’t know, Opie was crowned Miss US Virgin Islands in 2013 and achieved a top 5 placement at Miss United States. At the age of 20, she created Vizcaya Swimwear. Lisa’s successful YouTube channel and blog, LadyCode, led her to establish LadyCode Cosmetics in 2015, an independent and woman-owned brand. With over a million followers, she has used her platform to bring fans along her meteoric rise in the industry.

Celeb Secrets: How did you prep for the Cannes Film Festival?
Lisa Opie: “I prepared months in advance for this, working closely with my incredible stylist, Joey Rolon. We wanted to create the perfect look that would make a statement on the red carpet. We had numerous fittings with top designers, exploring different options until we found the perfect ensemble. Eventually, we fell in love with a stunning creation by the talented Miami-based designer, Juan Carlos Piñera. As for physical preparation, I dedicated myself to a rigorous fitness routine, including Pilates and cardio, to ensure I was in my best shape for the red carpet. I also made sure to take vitamin injections to boost my energy and overall appearance.”
CS: Have you ever been? What was it like walking the iconic red carpet?
LO: “This is actually my fourth time in Cannes, but it was my very first time walking the iconic red carpet. I still vividly remember my first visit to Cannes back in 2012 when I was just a teenager. I was awe-struck as I saw the magnificent Palais des Festivals and imagined how incredible it would be to walk that legendary red carpet. Fast forward 11 years later, and there I was, walking that same red carpet as a guest for a world premiere. It was an unforgettable experience. The red carpet is a bustling and vibrant place. There are photographers everywhere, shouting and waving, trying to capture the perfect shot. Surrounded by fellow celebrities, the energy and excitement are palpable. It was truly exhilarating!”
CS: Did you see any fashion trends that you want to share with us?
LO: “Certainly! I noticed that sleek and beaded looks were extremely popular at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Many stars opted for glamorous outfits adorned with beautiful beads and sequins. When it comes to color, monochrome looks were all the rage, especially the timeless elegance of black. It was incredible to see so many stunning fashion choices and to witness the creativity on the red carpet.”

CS: Did you see any celebrities that you were surprised to see?
LO: “There were quite a few familiar faces at the Cannes Film Festival, but one celebrity that truly took me by surprise was Gemma Chan. I’m a huge fan of her work, especially in ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ so it was such a thrill to see her on the red carpet alongside me. She looked absolutely stunning, as always, and it was a pleasure to be in the presence of such incredible talent.”
CS: What inspired your look?
LO: “For this year’s Cannes Film Festival, we wanted to create a look that wouldn’t overshadow my essence but still exuded a classic and timeless vibe. We aimed for something that embodied who I am while incorporating a clean European twist, since we are in France. It was important to strike the perfect balance between sophistication and my personal style, and I believe we achieved just that.”
CS: What were your go-to beauty products for your hair and makeup?
LO: “I have a couple of go-to beauty products that I relied on for my hair and makeup at the Cannes Film Festival. Firstly, the LOADED brows and hair palette from the ladycode shop was an absolute game changer. It allowed us to shape my eyebrows perfectly using the gels and powders in the palette. Additionally, we used the same colors from the palette to enhance my hairline, giving it a fuller appearance, especially under the camera flash. Another product I absolutely loved was the Aruba matte liquid lipstick from ladycode. My talented makeup artist, Julia, used it on me, and it stayed on all night while providing the perfect shade of pink to complement my overall look.”
