Healing from a breakup may be hard, but no one tells you that you can’t hold onto good parts that came from it.
GRAMMY nominated singer/songwriter JP Saxe does just that in his new single “The Good Parts,” which is now available on all streaming platforms. Penned by Saxe and produced by close collaborators Malay (Frank Ocean, Lorde) and Ryan Marrone, the pop ballad is about trying to find the healthy recognition that there really can be beautiful parts in a relationship that ends.
“[‘The Good Parts’] was an idea I had just for that chorus,” JP tells Celeb Secrets reporter Juliet Schroder during an interview over Zoom. “I brought it back to Los Angeles in a session with Mags Duval and Ryan Marrone, and we talked about the possibility of holding on to the really beautiful parts of a relationship — even if that relationship ends — and we all found it quite sad that a relationship ending meant you needed to pretend it was all f***ed.”
Confirming that a new project is coming in the new year, JP tells Celeb Secrets that the reason why he chose to release “The Good Parts” now is because the song feels “the most present” to him at the moment.
“All of the songs are rooted in emotion that at one point in time was the most present emotion to me. But there was just something about this one that felt like it synced up with what I’ve been thinking about a lot,” he reveals. “How to hold onto the good parts has been a common theme in my internal dialogue, and I liked the idea of bringing in my squad on that dialogue.”
In terms of what the new material will sound like, the talented songwriter says that “sonically, [‘The Good Parts’] is more on the singer/songwriter side of things.”
“Things definitely get sonically explorative beyond where this one is, but I would say it’s all wordy. It’s really sentimental and I smile when I listen to it,” JP shares.
