Kyrie Irving Confronts the Wrong Fan During Altercation at MSG

Knicks fans were getting to Kyrie Irving’s head last night at The Garden.

During the Nets’ 110-98 comeback win against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, opposing fans were heckling Irving as he exited for the locker room during halftime. Only this time, the heckles got to Irving’s head.

In a video that has now gone viral, Irving can be seen stopping and tapping the fan who he believed was the heckler on the shoulder, and exchanging words with the fellow. There was only one problem: Kyrie targeted the wrong fan.

It is unclear what was said, both from the fan and Irving, but what is known is that Irving believed that the fan was the heckler, when he indeed was not. This behavior comes after Irving was fined $25,000 a few months back for an altercation with a fan.

“East coast basketball at its finest,” Irving said of the incident. “People just yelling random s**t from the crowd. Wanted a reaction, they got one. I think I tapped the wrong person, so I apologize to the random guy that I tapped. He looked at me with a surprising look on his face. Somebody said something and I was just fed up with our performance.”

The Nets were trailing the Knicks at the time, so it is reasonable that Irving was frustrated with the team’s performance. He and fellow superstar and Nets teammate Kevin Durant, however, proved to be vital in the Nets’ comeback win at The Garden.

This was a critical win for the Nets, as they jumped from 10th place in the East to 8th, with just two games to go. The Knicks, meanwhile, are already eliminated from playoff contention, along with LeBron James and the Lakers.
