MTV’s iconic Teen Mom franchise is back beginning tonight (September 6), as its new spinoff series Teen Mom: The Next Chapter is set to feature cast members from Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2.
Teen Mom has been around since 2009, giving a raw glimpse into what motherhood is like as a teenager. We’ve seen moms like Amber Portwood, Catelyn Baltierra, and Maci McKinney grow up before our eyes, navigating relatable motherhood obstacles and life challenges.
In typical Teen Mom fashion, these new string of episodes are nothing less than juicy, as the trailer shows Portwood’s daughter, Leah Shirley, asking if she’s making good choices; the girls discussing the overturn of Roe V. Wade and race; a proposal; and even an appearance from Jenelle Evans.
News broke last month that Evans is leaving the franchise, with the reality star’s manager claiming that it’s “due to two sides not meeting a contractual agreement” and Jenelle wanting to be available for other opportunities.
We chatted with Leah Messer and Cheyenne Floyd exclusively about all things Teen Mom, from having unique motherhood experiences to giving advice to young moms. When it comes to growing up as a mother on television, Leah tells us, “I think I’ve learned from the very beginning becoming a mom at seventeen. Now I’m thirty, we’re filming [Teen Mom: The Next Chapter] — I’ve definitely learned a lot throughout the years.”
The last episodes ended with Cheyenne embarking on the newborn phase, having welcomed baby Ace with her fiancé, Zach Davis, and vowing to take more time for herself. Leah is skeptical about marriage, even though her boyfriend, Jaylan Mobley, is ready for the next step.
The reality star seemed to have had a change of heart as she’s currently engaged to Mobely after he proposed with a 4.7-carat custom ring.
Cheyenne is also prepping to be a bride with her fiance Zach Davis. The reality star recently had a bachelorette party that included twenty-two guests, telling Celeb Secrets, “There were twenty-two of us from different ages up from twenty-one to my mom and her friends who are in their fifties, sixties… it was so much fun. I don’t think I’ve laughed that much in forever, it was way too much fun. But I would never do it again.”
