LeBron James, Steph Curry Edge Out Team Durant in NBA All-Star Game

During a riveting matchup in Cleveland, the top basketball stars in the NBA battled it out on the court to cap off what was a memorable All-Star Weekend. The 2022 NBA All-Star Game was held on Sunday night, February 20, and it saw the return of Team LeBron versus Team Durant.

Team LeBron’s Steph Curry went off on a basketball rampage, scoring 50 points including nailing sixteen 3-pointers (destroying the previous record for 3-pointers in an All-Star Game, nine, set by Paul George back in 2016). The night was capped off by LeBron James himself scoring the game-winning shot, permanently putting his team up 163-160 to win the All-Star Game.

“Steph, I mean, come on, man,” LeBron said of Curry after the game. “This guy is from a different planet. He literally has an automatic sniper connected to his arm, and when he lets it go, not only himself but everybody on the floor, in the stands, on TV, on their phones, whatever you’re watching on, you think it’s going in every time. And nine times out of 10, sometimes 10 times out of 10, it does go in. So to be out there and watch that kid from Akron as well shoot the ball the way he shot it, it was unbelievable. It was pretty cool.”

“I played well the whole night,” Curry said. “[LeBron] hit the game-winner. All the history of our series and the Akron ties, and all that kind of going into how the night went, so it was pretty — can’t really draw it up any other way.’’

Despite having the worst 3-point shooting season in his entire career, Curry planted his place as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, and his efforts in Sunday’s game earned him the All-Star Game MVP award, which was named the 2022 Kobe Bryant award in honor of the late great superstar.

“This trophy has a very special meaning, honoring Kobe and Gigi, [and] everybody that was lost two years ago,” Curry said following his win. “I’m very humbled, very blessed and I really appreciate it.”

It wasn’t all woes for Team Durant, though, despite their close loss. Joel Embiid of the 76ers led Team Durant in points, with 36. However, it, of course, was not enough as Team LeBron defeated Team Durant for the second year in a row, and won its fifth straight NBA All-Star Game. This, combined with the Celebrity All-Star Game and the Skills Competition, capped off what was a fun-filled NBA weekend.
