We’d be lying if we said that we didn’t stay up all night last night watching Netflix‘s newest series Sweet Magnolias after its premiere at midnight!
Based off the book series by Sherryl Woods, the series follows Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Helen Decatur (Heather Headley) and Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliot) — three lifelong friends who lift each other up as they juggle relationships, family and careers in the small, Southern town of Serenity while transforming a big old house into a beautiful new spa.
Celeb Secrets (virtually) sits down with Logan Allen to talk about his time on set, how he got into character for his role and some BTS secrets from set that you wouldn’t know while watching. FYI, Allen plays Maddie’s son, Kyle Townsend, who he says “is the most caring person.”
“He focuses on making everybody around him happy,” the young actor tells Celeb Secrets. “One of my favorite things about Kyle is his relationships. He’s very smart when It comes to seeing people that need help and going to help them. He’s just not very good with girls.”
You can keep up with Logan by following him on Instagram at @itsloganallen and binge all ten episodes here. The cast will be participating in a virtual watch party that same day at 4PM — don’t forget to tune in!
Celeb Secrets: Can you tell us a bit about the show and your character Kyle?
Logan Allen: “Sweet Magnolias is about Maddie Townsend and how she is handling a divorce in the small town of Serenity, South Carolina. Serenity is a very small town so with the divorce going on, everybody is gossiping and in Maddie’s business. Because everybody knows everybody, my character (Kyle) who is one of Maddie’s kids, is going through a lot as well.
My character Kyle is the most caring person. He focuses on making everybody around him happy. He is also an actor! One of my favorite things about Kyle is his relationships. He’s very smart when It comes to seeing people that need help and going to help them. He’s just not very good with girls.”
Celeb Secrets: Are you anything like Kyle? What’s your process like of getting into character?
Logan Allen: “He and I actually have a bunch of similarities! We are both actors, we’re both the middle child, and we both try to do what’s best for people around us.
Getting into character is pretty easy after you do it once. Because we’re so common, it’s not that hard. Kyle just has more energy than me and speaks a little quicker! But when I first got the character, it took me a while to find HIM. I read the character breakdown and then implemented myself into the character. After that, I eventually chatted with the writers about their view on Kyle, and they were set! Now every time I have to get into character, it doesn’t take long at all.”
Celeb Secrets: What’s it like on set with everyone? Can you share some of your favorite memories from working on the show?
Logan Allen: “I couldn’t have worked with a better cast and crew. They were phenomenal. Everyone was so loose and fun yet so professional and talented. I had a blast every single day on set. I don’t have a specific favorite memory because everyday WAS a memory. Couldn’t have got luckier.”
Celeb Secrets: What’s one thing you’re really looking forward for fans to see when “Sweet Magnolias” premieres?
Logan Allen: “I think one thing I’m excited for people to see is my character’s relationships and development. People will laugh, cry, and have such a fun time when watching not just certain characters, but the whole show. It’s truly a masterpiece.”
Celeb Secrets: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what’s a secret about the show you want fans to know?
Logan Allen: “The prop department made me laugh every day! They set up the room and the props in the scenes. They would write funny things on the papers we had or little jokes in our notebooks in school scenes. They just made it 10x more fun for me!”
