Megan Moroney Says New Album Cloud 9 “Reflects New Confidence” While Gushing Over 6 CMA Award Nominations (Exclusive)

Megan Moroney walked into the 2025 SESAC Nashville Music Awards on Sunday (November 16) with good reason to be glowing. Her hit “Am I Okay?” had just been named SESAC Song of the Year and she was gearing up for a career-defining CMA Awards night with six nominations, the most of any artist this year.

But even in the middle of her biggest week yet, Megan kept it humble, reflective, and very… Megan.

“I’m just so honored to be here,” she told Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder on the red carpet. “It’s always humbling to come to these things. It’s like, how did this happen?”

The SESAC honor felt especially meaningful, given how personal the Am I Okay? album cycle was.

“It’s really cool to be here and see how much I’ve grown with my fans and what we’ve done together the past however many years,” she said.

Tonight (November 19), she’s set take those same songs into the 59th Annual CMA Awards as a six-time nominee, including nods for Single, Song, Album, Female Vocalist of the Year, Music Video, and Musical Event with Kenny Chesney. And yes, she really is bring Kenny as her date.

“I convinced Kenny Chesney to come to the award show with me,” Megan laughed. “That’s when I’m like… how did I convince him to do that?”

Just days before the SESAC Awards, Megan said goodbye to the cobalt blue palette from her Am I Okay? era and introduced the pink-hued world of her third studio album, Cloud 9, arriving February 20. And while it’s technically just a color, Megan told Celeb Secrets that saying goodbye to it hit surprisingly hard.

“It was emotional… why am I emotional about a color?” she joked. “That’s proof I can get emotionally attached to anything.”

But the transition means something deeper. Cloud 9 is the sound of a more confident version of Megan Moroney — one who’s still an emo cowgirl, just softer around the edges.

“Cloud 9 represents this newfound confidence,” she explained. “I’ve always been very confident, but it has exponentially grown. I know exactly who I am — and that confidence has allowed me to become more soft.”

While the 28-year-old promises the emotional gut punches aren’t going anywhere, she exclusively revealed to us that the songs come from a more secure, grounded place.

When we asked how this newfound self-worth shows up in her songwriting, she didn’t sugarcoat it — in the most Megan way possible.

“When you realize your worth, it takes a lot of life experiences to get there,” she said. “But I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t allow people to treat me badly.”

That clarity changed how she writes about relationships, too.

“It’s about falling in love and it being okay if it doesn’t work out… when you’re confident, it’s like okay, whatever, onto the next,” she said. “Cry for like three business days, and then we’re gonna move on.”

With “Beautiful Things” already climbing charts and “6 Months Later” becoming one of her strongest radio moments to date, it’s clear Cloud 9 is shaping up to be her most emotionally self-assured album yet.
