Happy Monday, readers!
Today is a very special Music Monday because it only happens once every four years. In honor of the Leap Year, we are introducing you to country pop artist Charly Cole.
Charly is the big sister that we all wish we had. The one we would turn to for advice because her songs tell us that she has experienced it all before and lived to tell the tale. It’s not surprising because, for a 19 year old, she has already been there, seen it, done it.
Born and raised in Germany, Charly moved to LA at 16, all by herself. “I feel like [moving] has made me a stronger person,” Charly tells us exclusively. “Because I left home so early I think I grew up faster. Facing challenges by myself wasn’t always easy but I feel like it has made me a better person and it made me grow. I have learned that it is important to sometimes just rely on yourself and be your own best friend. I have also learned to be more open to others because I have been to so many places meeting so many different people.”
Her upbeat music has the country-pop vibe that are inspiring with a message they are easy to relate to and never fail to make you smile. “I think people should listen to my music so they can hear about life,” Charly says.
Her influences speak through her music – Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Shania Twain are tough acts to follow, but Charly respects their legacy, then brings something original for our generation. She calls out to young women to know their power and stand tall.
When we asked Charly why she chose to pursue a music career in the country-pop genre, she said the following, “I just love the sound of country pop music. From Faith Hill to Shania Twain to Lady Antebellum it just always gives me the feeling of a long gone summer romance- nostalgic.”
Charly Cole is the perfect artist to feature on a leap year because her latest single “February 29” embraces it! “My song ‘February 29’ is actually partly a true story,” Charly told us exclusively. “I did propose to my boyfriend after two weeks because I was just so in love with him. It didn’t work out for me haha but maybe someone’s going to be lucky this February 29.”
Thanks to an old Irish tradition, many other girls like Charly propose to their significant others on February 29th. “The old Irish tradition says that leap year- so February 29 – which only happens every four years the girls can propose to the guys,” Charly told us. “Supposedly St. Brigid struck a deal with St. Patrick to allow women to propose to men every four years.”
