Another week means another New Music Friday! SO MANY of our favorite artists dropped new songs today and we aren’t lying when we say that they’re all bops and no skips.
In honor of Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, Katy Perry is the latest artist to team up with the franchise for a new song that’s featured on the upcoming compilation record, Pokémon 25: The Album.
“When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring in Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated,” Katy said in a statement.
Ultimately topping our New Music Friday playlist today (May 14), the bright pop song has a strong theme of resilience and igniting your inner light — according to Perry — and is accompanied by an adorable music video that features both Pichu and Pikachu.
“The song’s theme — resilience, igniting your inner light — have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved for of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”
