Nicole Miller is bringing “Rock ‘N’ Royalty” to the runway.
The famed designed showcased her new FW20 collection during NYFW: The Shows 2020 at Spring Studios on Sunday (February 9) and is not only inspired by the rebellious royalty and the renegades of Kings Road, but also paying homage to the British rock influence of the 70s.
“It started out about the rebellious royals, because they were just so much in the press, and I thought it was hilarious that they were all being such renegades,” Miller said of the collection to Vogue backstage, surrounded by friends and colleagues sipping on her namesake rose.
The 20 minute runway show included 40 looks with pieces intended to break down gender barriers and celebrate the androgynous spirit and juxtaposes quintessential palace gardens with the underground music scene in London. Leather jackets and pinstripe blazers were filled with little illustrations of crowns, with labyrinth-printed bell-sleeved frocks, paisley velveteen miniskirts, black leather jumpsuits and spoofs on tuxedo shirts gracing the models on the runway.
With both men and women on the runway this season, Miller’s new collection truly embraces what fashion is today — universal across all genders. We can’t wait to see how everyone pairs each piece when the collection hits store next season.
